This is in response to all the negativity towards Sang-jin. He's not really doopy because he's "a typical Taoist Confucian male". But rather because he is screwed in one of the most unique conflicts.
Allow me to break it down. Sang-jin is more or less guilty and or depressed. When he was with Hyun-ja, sure he was kinda doopy, but this was because this is the personality he developed after waking up from a coma not knowing anything. But when Na-young came along, thats when he starts getting screwed. He is put into a bad situation with 2 families, No matter which he picks he is screwed. So rather he does nothing and does a very well job of riding this out by letting everyone makes decisions for him. Such as Hyun-ja telling him to go live with Na-young. He wanted to stay, but he would've been screwed with Na-young and his daughter.
Bottom line is, there really isn't much for him to do. If I were him I'd be bashing my head against something repeatedly. The only thing he can do right now in his situation really is kiss Na-youngs a## and kiss up and earn brownie points. But other than that he is screwed no matter what he does.
What I think should've happened was, Na-young should've moved on and went with Hyun-pil when he saw that Sang-jin remarried.
Hyun-ja is psychotic while Na-young is the voice of reason (and I find her damn hot, well up until she cut her hair) while Sang-jin is screwed.

Well, after translating whole loads of character profiles, kbc28.tv/wife/char-1.htm, I have to agree with you now. But that was my take of Sang-jin when I first encountered him... I guess he was eisegeted.. okay, I'll stop reading all these philosophical books now.. <grin>

What you say makes a lot of sense, and it explains his dopiness quite adequately. Thank you!
P.S. Yes, Na-young is very pretty.
