We've been wanting to see this one for quite a while and some fellow on Youtube has uploaded the first two episodes subbed. Its ripped straight from CNTV, a channel that does reruns of historical dramas (they have aired shows and films from the west as well). The subtitles are not perfect, since the decision to translate certain words come across as odd; those who watch it may know what I'm talking about. I had the same feeling of joy when I first found the subbed version of episode 1 of The Fifth Republic.
Even if we're pretty much watching the same subject matter as Jeong Dojeon (they start with the Wihwado retreat), it would at least be an interesting study in seeing the difference in how Kdramas were made in the 90s and 2010s.
WOW. Checked in here this morning, found this and nearly fell off my chair. sageuk thanks for spotting this! Immediately watched the first segment. What a treat to finally see part of this series. It sure does look every bit as good as people have said it is.
Yeah the subs are up-and-down but at least you can keep up with what's happening--and there are some helpful notes and comments added here and there. If the whole series gets subbed the same way I wouldn't have any problem with that.
You're right, it's interesting to see the contrast in styles. Certainly this series isn't as pretty or telegenic as the more recent historicals are. It's all about telling the story. (No floodlights in the forest scene, how about that. Almost a shame, though--couldn't tell if Choe Myeong-gil was in the group of women.) And how weird is it to see the guy who played LSG in Jeong Dojeon playing Bangwon in this one!
Unfortunately it doesn't look like the guy who posted these was able to continue doing it. They were posted eight months ago and no other episodes have been posted since then.
If somebody ever does make a subbed version available then we will definitely have a viewing here. Guaranteed.
