Well now we're getting heavily into the political side of JB's life. It could be a very interesting story; hopefully what we get is reasonably accurate. One problem so far is the writers haven't laid it out very well yet. Who's on who's side and who did what to which other person and who might get which position, it's not very clear. It helped to bring in Kim Myung; now we have a face that we can start to associate with one side of the factionalism. We need to start seeing more faces to associate with names.
One thing that obviously is not going to work is the conversion of YM the pirate into YJ the power player. Already it's ridiculous. The guy is a mass murderer, a most-wanted fugitive, and he goes right in to meet the regent? And nobody has a problem with him walking around a free man after just two years in slavery as punishment? How totally stupid. And then he goes in and tells the regent a few things about China, and immediately the regent is putting him on a pedestal and comparing him to JB? Good heavens stop it. The guy assassinated a high official of the Chinese government. How can we possibly buy the idea that the Shilla government would be fine with him as a free man roaming the capital and meeting high officials? Ugh.
"She must have followed someone down from the temple." Well there's a rare piece of good brainwork from JB. How come nobody else thought of it sooner? It's good, not genius.
Can't anybody in this series just climb over a wall? They all do that stupid forward flip and it got old a long time ago.
So Kim Choong-gong killed Kim Yang's grandfather "and exhumed his body from its grave to hang him again." Wow. So the first time wasn't enough? Is that like a twice-baked potato?
"How could he lead this place when he's so lacking in political savvy?" Bingo. Master Jo scores again. And JB ordering Kim Myung out of the city only proved his point all the more. Should have been more diplomatic about it.
"You seem to be a manly man. What are you doing working for someone as conservative as Jang Bogo?" Cracked me up.
Madam Jami acting like the Shillan Sally Rand, well that was interesting. Sort of figured Kim Myung would proposition her on the spot. (The guy playing Kim Myung, we've seen him in other things. Wasn't he a general in DJY?)
Hey the brother! We'd all but forgotten about him. That was an awfully nice sequence, reaching out to him like that. The reconciliation angle was a good addition to the episode. Wonder what role he'll have in the story going forward...but whatever, it was good to have something uplifting like that after the awful death in the previous episode.
