Kind forum members, I live in a tiny 2 block pocket of Oak Park that always looses power and last night with the high winds we were the first to go! How frustrating! I was afraid that last night's show might be the last of YH (or at the very least the last of SM). Could someone please give me a brief run down of what happened?

Na-young is asked out by Pretty Boy again, but she says she has plans. Then right in front of him she calls Ki-hoon to say that her Grandma misses him and to come over for dinner. He's glad to hear the news and agrees to pick her up. Then she calls MR to tell her to prepare bibimap (?) because Ki-hoon is coming over. Of course MR throws a fit because she says it's so hard to prepare (even though all she will be doing is basically cleaning the vegetables). Grandma tells her to go to the store and buy the vegetables. Then she goes, complains to TY about how she will never be able to get along with NY (she also reminds TY that her father got her mother a maid). TY says that he will be her maid and that he will acompany her to the grocery store.
Then they show a scene where MR's parents are the obstetrician's and MR's mom is getting an ultra sound. The doctor informs her that her baby is quite large and she should do more excersice. MR's mom tells her husband that he shouldn't have hired a maid for her.
SM goes to see JM and when SM tries to hug him he runs away. When SM is asking him if he's mad or he did something wrong, he doesn't respond or look at him at all. He later meets with JY, who inquires about his health, and tells her what happened. She tells him that she told JM that SM is his father. SM asks her why she did that when all he wanted was to be remembered as the nice uncle, or that he would not have minded at all if JM didn't even remember him. JY asks JM what's wrong and gets the same silent treatment. When YJ comes home, JM runs to him and hugs him.
Yuna has her first recital and all the Jo's are present (SM too) when Yuna is about to come up, SM starts feeling pain. He goes out to take a pill and tries to concentrate on Yuna's performance, but the pain becomes intolerable. That's how it ends.

Sorry to hear about your power outage, peterrijo! Hope everything is ok now. Those were some winds last night, weren't they?
I waited to review this morning's re-broadcast to see if there were any added scenes, but they aren't. So here's a recap of what happened last night:
Pt 1 SM watches Yuna dancing at her class; after class, he has dinner w/ Yuna and MJ at a restaurant, although he's not eating. MJ informs him that Yuna will be in a dance recital in 2 weeks. SM is delighted to hear about it, and asks Yuna if she'll be ready for the recital that soon. She nods affirmatively. SM and MJ looked pleased.
YJ is working late that evening. GS is sitting by herself in the living room, doing needlepoint. JY offers to play cards w/ her, but GS declines the offer because she figures JY is just asking to be nice. JY goes to her room to take prenatal vitamins. YJ comes in w/ a big fruit basket. He says he took his staff out to eat. He presents the basket to her and says he wants her to as much nice fruit as she wants to keep her healthy. She's extremely touched by this and recalls how she craved oranges like crazy when she was expecting JM. He's glad she's so pleased and promises to bring her more fruit. (Knowing YJ, he might have it delivered by the truckload) He then asks her if she met w/ WK. JY says she did but that WK must be really worried about SM because he said he couldn't think about seeing JM while his son is sick. YJ agrees this must mean WK knows SM is bad off and he looks somber. (to be continued)

Pt. 2 MJ, SM and Yuna get home from dinner. Mother says WK called and SM should call him back. SM nods and then makes the call. WK says he's found a famous doctor of oriental medicine, known for curing all sorts of diseases. SM tries to brush him off, but WK is insistent and eventually SM agrees, just to appease him.
YJ meets w/ MJ in a cafe. YJ tells her WK declined to meet JM just now, so he must think SM is pretty seriously ill. MJ says WK just found out and is very upset just now. She adds that SM is very seriously ill. She tells YJ the doctor says it's too late for treatment and that SM only has a few months to live. She adds that SM is staying at their house now, which she imagines YJ thinks is kind of strange...but YJ says, no, he knows this is how she is. He tells her SM met w/ him the other day to talk to him about setting up an investment to provide for his father after he's gone. MJ said it hurts her to think he would go to YJ w/ this and not her first.
SM drives to the meeting w/ the doctor of oriental medicine w/ WK who is going on and on about how this doctor can work miracles and he asked everyone he knows and they asked people they know. This doctor is the best. He says he'll do anything if SM will get well...he'll go to the ends of the earth for SM to be cured. SM says nothing.
SM and WK go to a cafe after the meeting w/ the doctor. WK says the doctor's staff will brew an herbal tonic which they'll deliver every day. He assures SM many have been cured w/ this tonic. Still SM remains silent.
NY runs into the other suitor at school. He asks her if she's free now because he'd like to take her somewhere and show him she's wrong about him. She tells him she's busy and has plans. Then, right there on the spot, she takes her cell phone out and calls KH. She says his name when he answers, so the other guy will hear. She asks KH if he's free for dinner because grandma misses him and asked NY if she'd invite him. The other guy looks disappointed and goes off. KH is happy for the invitation and agrees to pick NY up at school. After she gets off the phone w/ him, she calls home to inform them she's invited KH to dinner. It's apparent the dinner was her idea--grandma never said a thing about it. Obviously, it was for effect. MR answers the phone and tells her KH will be joining them for dinner and that he wants bibimbop, please make it and hangs up.
MR is very distressed. She tells grandma and wants to know if they can make something else, that's easier. Grandma says they should make KH what he wants and directs her to go out shopping for vegetables. She's very unhappy about this and goes off to TY's office to complain. When he hears what she's whining about, he's annoyed. He doesn't see what the big deal is, it's not kalbi afterall, and besides grandma will do all the work. She says it will cause her a lot of work, too. He's unsympathetic and she gets really mad. She throws in his face that her father has hired a maid to help her pregnant mom around the house and all TY can do is tell her make the food NY wants, no matter how much work. Irritated, he says, "Ok, I'll be your maid. I'll do the shopping and carry the bags," and he tells his assistant to watch the office while he's out. This is not what MR wants at all and protests vociferously. But TY drags MR by her hand out the door behind him.
The herbal tonic for SM is delivered to the Jo house around the time MJ arrives home from work. Mother tells her SM is upstairs resting and MJ goes up to see him.
Everyone is having dinner in the Jo house. Grandma begins to ask KH about how much he likes their bibimbap and NY gets a little nervous and tries to gloss over the discussion. Quickly, she starts getting vegetables from the different serving bowls and putting them on KH's plate. MR and TY exchange surprised glances at each other. NY offers KH more sesame oil, but grandma stops her quickly, sayng too much will make it greasy. NY's family is all very surprised w/ how nice NY is being to KH... not her usual behavior. They joke a little about it and KH says he doesn't dare aks what's the reason for fear he'll scare off the better behavior. They all laugh about it, but NY seems offended anyone would suggest she's not always nice. (to be continued)

Pt 3 MR brings the tonic to SM in the bedroom where he's resting. He refuses the drink and says he only went to the oriental medicine doctor to humor his father. MJ badgers him into drinking it in her usual way of getting worked up and pleading and almost crying. He reluctantly agrees and drinks down the broth. Yuna comes in wearing her ballet tu tu, looking very cute. SM tells her how pretty she looks and she shows him a little of what she'll do, making a little pirouette. He smiles and tells her that was very nice.
Han-soon gets an ultrasound. The doctor tells her the fetus is bigger than would be expected for 6 mos. She tells HS she should get more exercise. (I, personally, have never heard anything about fetal size being related to how much exercise the mother gets or doesn't get, and I've never heard of a larger than average fetus being cause for concern...but this is Korea, and they seem to have a different view of things about a lot of stuff) HS is unhappy when she leaves the office and tells Young-man, who is waiting in the outer room, that he should not have hired the maid. She explains the doctor says she needs to get more exercise because the baby is getting too big. YM doesn't see why this is a problem and says "Isn't bigger better?" But HS is not happy and says the doctor tells her its' something to worry about. YM says he'll exercise w/ her every day now and will see to it she gets all the exercise she needs.
LOL! I was thinking, knowing YM, the next thing that will happen is the next day the doorbell will ring and Han-soon will be greeted by a delivery man bringing in a whole suite of gym equipment and a personal trainer from a health club will come in behind him w/ a contract signed by YM to come by every day and do a session w/ HS. I wouldn't be surrpised!
SM visits JM at his preschool. When SM comes up to him, JM runs away and won't talk to SM. SM is very upset about this and tries to talk to JM, but the boy looks in the other direction and answer SM or let him touch him. SM says if he's done anything wrong, it was unintentional and he's very sorry and would like JM to forgive him. Still JM ignores SM steadfastedly.
JY gets a call from SM at her work and they meet in the cafe across the hall. SM tells her what happened at the preschool and JY says, worriedly, that she told JM that his birth father is the Uncle who took him to the zoo and w/ whom he had all the fun. She said he seemed ok when she told him, but she now thinks he must be upset and this is why he ignored SM. SM is very unhappy to hear that JY told JM about that. He says he didn't want him to know and only wanted SM to remember him as a nice uncle. He didn't want him confused. JY says she and YJ talked it over and agreed it was for the best to tell him now. SM looks very hurt and JY says she'll talk to JM again.
SM sits alone by the river to think. JY sits in her office, too worried and distracted to work. She calls home and asks GS how JM is doing. GS says he's just fine.
JY's ex boss stops by, saying he's been in Europe and has just returned. He offers to take them all out to dinner, and the other 2 are pleased, but JY says she can't go and she hurries home to talk to JM. She goes into his room and tries to talk to him very gently about what he did when SM came to his school. She told him he didn't do anything wrong and she wasn't mad at him, but she wants him to tell mommy why he did what he did. JM is playing w/ some trucks on his bed and silently ignores his mom, continuing to play. Just then, YJ comes and JM rushes to him and hugs him tight. YJ can see that he's upset and holds the little boy. He asks him what's wrong, but JM won't say.
Later, in their own room, JY explains what happened. She feels just awful and thinks JM must hate her now too for telling him something he didn't want to hear. YJ says he's sure JM doesn't hate her and must just be thrown to learn his birth father is someone he knew. He says he's sure JM needs a little more time to adjust to the idea.
SM works more on his letter to Yuna. He tells her how pretty she looks in her ballet clothes and how he doesn't mind if she isn't great at ballet, but wants her to know while she's growing up, even if he's not there w/ her, that it's a beautiful thing to always be the best you can be at whatever you do.
Next, he's in the audience at the recital w/ MJ, mother, SJ and her bf. They're watching some little girls on stage and Kyung-oe (mother) remarks that Yuna is next. Just then, SM crumples over in pain. He whispers to MJ that he's going to the washroom, and hurries out to the water cooler in the hall where he takes some pain pills. MJ knows something is up and goes out to check on him. She can see he's in terrible pain and asks what can she do for him. He says, no, he's all right...he'll be ok...he just took pain medication and they should go back in because Yuna must be coming on. MJ agrees nervously, feeling that it's not ok, but doesn't know what else to do. They go back inside to watch the recital and a string of little girls in ballet tu tus come out...Yuna is first in the line. Her family smiles at seeing her, and are excited, pointing her out to each other. SM tries to look but he's so overwhelmed w/ pain, he can't keep his head up and is all hunched over. MJ looks over and sees him like this and looks alarmed.
End of Ep. 166

Thank you both so much! It's the next best thing to seeing the show, and I really hated missing an episode so close to the end. I was dreading the possibility that it would suddenly be over and I'd be left without the big payoff!
You two are the best!
Oh, and regarding fetal size: usually a larger than normal fetus is a sign of gestational diabetes, and it can be problematic for the delivery, especially if you have a large baby and a small (think Asian) woman with a small birth canal (and one that hasn't been 'used' in over 20 years too boot!). Exercise won't help -- and I loved the mental image of a fitness trainer showing up! -- but diet changes are a must.

I'm glad I could help, and I'm glad you enjoyed my synopsis. I had to post it in 3 parts because apparently the text volume exceeded what is allowed for one post. I don't know why it took that many words to recap the ep...it surprised me when it turned out as long as it did.
I hadn't thought about the size thing w/ the baby, but now that you remind me, I do recall hearing that a larger than average fetus could be a sign of gestational diabetes (although I think this is usually when the mother is taking insulin...I'll have to check the books on that). There is a test for that, and it's pretty much standard for any pregnancy these days in the US. I don't know where Korea stands on this kind of testing in pregnant women. Han-soon is in a higher risk group anyway because she's so much older. A lot of testing would be offered to her, if she was in the US. I would think some of these procedures would be standard in Korea these days, too, as it is a developed society.
I don't think it's the birth canal that's the concern so much as the hips in giving birth to a large baby. And yes, Asian women do tend to be smaller than Western women. HS looks pretty much medium build to me, but if she does have slim hips, you're right that she could have trouble developing an overly large baby.
The exercise thing seemed ridiculous to me. I wonder if they consulted an expert on this, as they have on the cancer stuff, which is obvious. I can't imagine there are many doctors who would think how much a woman exercises would influence the weight and size of her developing baby...or if the baby was overly large, its weight could be reduced by the mother exercising. Even w/o medical training, I would think common sense would tell most people that.
I love the image of the exercise equipment and personal trainer showing up at Han-soon's door too and LOL when I imagined it. It's just the sort of thing YM would do.
Again, I'm glad I could help, and I see GC posted something too. That should cover you. I agree it would be just awful to miss an ep. when there are only 4 left.
