I wonder if the structure of Ryu's book explains why the series is spending so much time on the early months and years. His book is the same way.

Kim Ha Gyun (Chen Lin in KBS Immortal Yi Soon Shin) has been cast as Yang Hao. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yang_Hao_(Ming_dynasty)BTW, there are just 2 more episodes left to go in Korea. The war ends in 1598, but we're still in 1597.

I missed a few eps, Truth will we see the Shimazu in this drama ?, they actually made it across the border into Ming,as you already know . It would be great to see that depicted. Shimazu won't be making an appearance in this drama. The last episode(50) aired today in Korea. The show only entered 1598 near the end of Episode 49.

Only 2 people from this drama won awards at KBS Drama Awards this year.
Kim Gyucheol(Toyotomi Hideyoshi) won the Supporting Actor Award.
Kim Taewoo(King Seonjo) won the Excellence Award(3rd best award).
Kim Sangjung(Ryu Seongryong) won nothing and did not even show up at the event.

I think these awards are well earned, especially Kim Gyu Cheol as Hideyoshi.
I'm not sure what it is, but Kim Taewoo's Seonjo really stands out to me. There are alot of stressed out king characters who display anxiety and paranoia and yet this performance sticks out from the rest-is it because of how much energy he gives out combined with how high pitched his voice is (since if memory serves alot of Korean kings in these shows have deep voices)?
BTW, I never got to finish Jingbirok. Computer got too sluggish to continue watching properly.

Thanks for the update. I'm spending some time reading through my summaries and wrapping up this board now so it's good timing.
I agree with sageuk. The Hideyoshi portrayal was great; the actor did a wonderful job. And you can make a good case for the Seonjo actor too. The Ryu character, well, for a main character the series moved away from him as it went on, so I'm not surprised he didn't win anything.

Actually i thought the Hideyoshi depiction was one of the weaker points, scenes of him killing people in person just did not happen , neither was he bad tempered. The key to Hideyoshi was that he was very quiet, no one knew what he was thinking and he could turn on a dime.He became paranoid and delusional but kept his cards close to his chest.

Is that age difference considered surprising in Korea for people their age? I guess he's 56 so she'd be 42. I don't think anybody would think twice about it in the west. Not that either is right or wrong; just curious.

Not that either is right or wrong; just curious. Yes, especially when the groom is almost 60. It's usually hard for people over 50 to get married in Korea, unless if it's a second marriage with someone who's also been married before. I personally found it surprising that he's been single this whole time. If the groom was at least 40, the news might have been surprising but not as surprising as this case. I think who marries who also matter as well. Popular Korean pop legend Seo Taiji, for example, married someone 16 years younger than him. He was 40 and the bride was 24. However, he was a legend in Korean music industry and the general reception was that it was understandable while it was a little surprising, just because of his name value. At the same time, some people called him a pedophile for only dating young girls. He got a lot of hate comments for a scandal that revealed that he dated a 16 year old when he was 24. The marriage news came about shortly after this scandal.

Interesting; thanks. I remember Jerry Seinfeld started an affair with a high school girl when he was 38 or so, and I couldn't figure out why he didn't get more flak about it than he did (she was 17 so it was legal, but geez...). He married a 27-year-old when he was 45 and by that time nobody really said much about the age difference. A lot like the person you mentioned, another famous entertainer.
Anyway, yeah Kim has done well for himself so it's surprising he never got married until now. Hope he finds happiness.

Current situation in Korea reminds me of the time right before Imjin War.
Current Korean president Moon Jae-in = King Seonjo
Current Korean government(North Korean won't invade) = Kim Seong-il(Japan won't invade)
Korean conservatives(North Korea might invade, not to be trusted) = Hwang Yungil(Japan might invade, not to be trusted)
Kim Jong Un = Toyotomi Hideyoshi
United States = Ming China
North Korean official Lee Seon Gwon(Jan 9th - "Our nuke wasn't created to attack our brethren[SK], but the US") = So Yoshitoshi("We want to attack China, not Joseon, open the path for us")
Ryu Seongryong wrote "Book of Corrections" for a reason, to learn from past mistakes. Ryu would be turning over in his grave right now.
I'm very worried. This is why I hate Korean liberals.

You know what truth, I've been thinking exactly the same thing. Exactly. And specifically about Ryu's book too, how he wanted to caution future generations against complacency and how that lesson seems to be getting lost in some sort of fog.
I couldn't believe how the SK government just totally caved in on the Olympic thing. Yeah let's spurn our national flag and let the North in and join hands and let sport be the symbol of hope and unity, blah blah blah. No way should the North be let in without extracting huge concessions from them. (Which of course they wouldn't get, so let em stay home, tough noogies.) It's unbelievably naïve and I was glad to see so many South Koreans angry about it.
I'm worried too. And this stuff about my-button-is-bigger-than-your-button that we're getting from you know who, that's only making things worse.
