1/1/2015 AJK note: I created this thread by moving all of the 2014 posts pertaining to Book of Corrections that were in the "Upcoming K-Dramas" thread. There were quite a few, and since we'll be featuring that series here when it starts to air in the USA (probably in March), I figured a dedicated thread would be appropriate for now.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Only 24 episodes? Darn, darn, darn, darn...was really hoping for a big whomping long one. Still very eager to see it. And it sounds like King's Face is no great loss. So are there any plans for another historical after JD ends? Sounds like not, doesn't it. Rumor has it that next sageuk is going to be Ryu Sung Ryong, but it is only a rumor at this point just like the King Gwanghae drama rumor before confirmation of Jeong Dojeon last year. Ryu Sung Ryong in IYSS It's official. Traditional weekend historical of 2015 will be Ryu Sung Ryong. The title of the historical will be "The Book of Corrections," which was a book written by Ryu Sung Ryong. Director : Kim Sang Hwi (KBS Comrade) Writer : Baek Wun Cheol (KBS Chilwoo the Invincible)

Boo! Hiss! Whistle! Very disappointing. They only picked it because IYSS got such good ratings and they think enough time has passed. And they already have an entire book to guide them. So many great stories out there and they go back to the Imjin War. Rats.
But like I said, the book is wonderful and he was a very interesting person. And they're going to have to make it a very, very good series, because after IYSS being so good people will drop it like a hot potato if it doesn't measure up. So I guess it could be worse.
Anyway, thanks for the info, truth...appreciate it. I'll pull out my copy of the book and reread it before the series starts.
Anybody who's interested in the book, by the way, you can find a good used copy of it for $20 online. I enjoyed reading it.

I think the drama can cover the parts that weren't covered in IYSS since the main character of this show is Ryu Sung Ryong. IYSS was about life of Yi Soon Shin, but this drama will follow the life of Ryu Sung Ryong.

Makes sense because the Yi Soon Shin film Roaring Currents is coming out very soon (The one with Choi Min Sik ),so its probably smart thinking to ride the popular wave .

Look at this another way. Even though I liked IYSS, this is an opportunity to fix some of its flaws, particualry the early years. That being said, after that, particualry when it goes to the Imjin War, I'm not sure.

More on Book of Corrections
According to rumor, it is highly likely that many of the roles will be played by actors from KBS Comrades as the drama will be directed by the Comrades director. Expect to see some if not all from the list of Choi Su Jong, Kim Rwae Ha, Jeong Taewoo(Geom in DJY), Lee Deokhwa, and Kim Myungsoo(Wakizaka in IYSS) if that's the case.
Another casting rumor is that Kim Sang Kyung(Sejong in GKS) will play Ryu Seong Ryong, Choi Su Jong will play Yi Soon Shin, Park Sang Min(Choi Yang Baek in God of War) will play Won Kyun, and Kim Myungsoo will play King Seonjo. It could be the reverse in KSK and CSJ's case. Again, nothing is confirmed just like the post from the 12th.
The most important characters according to the released synopsis so far are :
Ryu Seong Ryong (main character)
King Seonjo
Yi Soon Shin
Prince Gwanghae
Lady Inbin (Seonjo's concubine)
Yoon Dusu

Much ironic casting in KBS historicals lately (if the above rumors are true).

So, Book of Corrections. Is this some sort of reworking of the IYSS legend? Is the BoC an actual thing that they are referencing, some sort of history book that any Korean would recognize by the name? The casting sounds--and I hope this isn't too crude--incestuous. Even more so than most Korean historicals. Am I wrong? I assume sageuk is referencing this. Irony--my favorite concept after sarcasm.

The main character of IYSS was Yi Soon Shin and it covered the life of YSS from his childhood to death. The main character of Book of Corrections is Ryu Seong Ryong and it will cover how Ryu Seong Ryong coped with the Imjin War behind the scenes as well as battles that YSS wasn't involved. The drama will begin with Joseon sending messengers to Hideyoshi to see what he's up to and end with Ryu writing the Book of Corrections after YSS's death. Book of Corrections is a name of the history book written by Ryu Seong Ryong. The casting is only a rumor at this point.

So, truth, once again, I've managed to garble my question, but once again, you still gave me the info I was actually looking for. Which was, of course, whether the Book of Corrections is a real Korean book. Which you are saying it is. LOL. Thanks so much truth.
Is Ryu Syeong-ryong considered a good "witness"? In other words, do people think he wrote what actually happened? RSR was such an appealing and upstanding character in IYSS, probably the moral compass of the whole drama, I wonder what he was like in real life.
And that's good to know about what the emphasis of the drama will be.

It's a real book and it's available in English translation for $20 or so online. I read it after IYSS and recall enjoying it as a contrast to YSS's diaries, which I had read just before that.
If they actually go through with this drama and you plan to watch it, it's not a bad investment.
