Yeah the big H-Mart is like a food court so you can try different things from different sellers. It would work real well for you if you go with family and everybody can get something different.
The Buffalo Grove place (Kum Kung San), I've been there several times and I really like it a lot. Koreans eat there so that tells you something. It got some bad online reviews for grouchy service but I've never found that; they've always been pleasant with me. Could have been that some of the staff doesn't speak fluent English but there was a younger guy in charge the last time I was there who spoke perfectly and was very nice. And the food is excellent. If you order beef to grill yourself they do put you in a booth with a small grill and a vent above it, but I think you can also have it pre-grilled. And most of their menu isn't barbeque at all. I had some spicy pork stuff last time (bulgogi) and it was terrific. Plus lots of interesting side dishes. Not the cheapest place price-wise but it's worth it.
There's one other Korean place in that area that I was at several months ago, at Arlington Heights and Lake-Cook in a strip mall. It's called Mowa and I didn't care for it at all. Maybe you would like it but it just wasn't my kind of place. Kum Kung San is near there, and there's an absolutely fantastic Chinese place in the same strip mall so I'll stick with those two.
I'm going to try to get over to one of the Milwaukee Avenue places from the article sometime soon; will let you know what I find. If you get over to H-Mart let us know what you ate!
