Empress Ki is getting better ratings than Suspicious Housekeeper and Marry Him If You Dare. I guess some are still watching despite the complaints about the series. 4MEN - Thorn Love MV (from MBC Empress Ki OST) The best thing about the MV is the song. Not surprised really ,two factors one being Ha Ji Won ,the second is that it is pretty much Queen Seondeok 2 ,in so much as style and content . I wonder if the ratings will hold by the time she becomes a Mongolian Concubine ,and her and her wonderful brother try and unite Mongolian's and Goryeon's in peaceful harmony . This is like ,if Yi Soon Shin headed up a welcoming committee for the Japanese , gave them a guided tour of Joseon ,and told them to help them selves to all the treasures and artifacts . lol

Just curious--how are you guys getting to see this so quickly? Do you get an MBC feed from some satellite service? And are you seeing it with subtitles or are you just watching it in Korean? It's not going to start here in Chicago for a few more weeks yet so I was wondering.

Just a heads-up to everybody that Empress Ki started airing in Chicago this week on MBC 24.5. Episodes air Monday and Tuesday at 10:10, with repeats on Tuesday and Wednesday at 5:40 p.m.
Within the first two minutes there was friction between the Goryean king Wang Yu and the Yuan emperor Huizong because they both loved the empress. Which tells you where this thing is headed. And never mind that they didn't rule at the same time. Which means this series will probably make my head explode...so I'll leave it to others to offer any insights or reviews or comments or whatever.

I actually started watching some of this ,to be fair i skipped all the cross dressing waif and 3 lovable oaf sidekicks stuff . Not a sign of Yi Sung Gye in this ,but its actually not bad ,lots of place intrigue ,plots and counter plots ,doomed lovers ,the two male leads are from Smile Again Donghae and both are messed up pretty boys . History is thrown out of the Palace window but Shakespeare did the same thing with Macbeth and Richard III .
Maybe i am out of my mind ,but parts of it reminded me of I Claudius ,totally crazed back stabbing Royal family headed up by a Wacko Emperor who reminded me of Caligula minus the perverse stuff . I have seen much worse than this to be fair and if you can look at it as a murderous Royal Family drama its not bad .

Actually this is one of the historical dramas I've been wanting to watch, but I couldn't find it anywhere. I came across some clips of it at YouTube when I was searching for something else and it looked pretty good. Now I'm not so sure after reading all the above posts.

If you go in about EP 30 you will miss most of the QSD redux stuff . Yes its not really on line anywhere i can see ,i actually down loaded some non subbed episodes one day when i had nothing to do (sorry everyone i know its an off limits subject ) .
All the Japanese and Korean TV Stations are really cracking down (again ) on all the many drama sites , at the same time they are not subbing out the rights for many shows to the legit outlets like Drama Fever and Netflix . So really if a person is not in area where they can get Korean TV Channels its dark days ahead for a while .

Ohmgosh, I found "Empress Ki" over at Dramot. I even had it in my favorites. Don't know why I was so sure I couldn't find it anywhere. Ah-hem, "Empress Ki" anyone? Birdy?? I mean, after "The Princess' Man" of course. And "The Joseon Gunman." And "Cheongdamdong Alice." And "The Night Watchman"...

I just finished watching this series and it reminded me of QSD a bit lol but not completely, I think this is a bit better than QSD.
I am not really into cross-dressing drama but Ha ji won really did a good job pretending as a man, she looks so pretty but at the same time she seem so manly and I love how she never let herself stay weak and I love her strategies.
Some scenes reminds me of QSD - like when they were being chased by the soldiers and had to jump from the clip. The other male is so uptight and very noble while the other one has insecurities and possessive. The line about the duckling that Bidam used to described his feelings for Deokman was also used in this seris (except they used chicks) The never ending battle for the throne.
I honestly ended up asking myself about who is better, Bidam or Ta Hwan (the emperor) Deokman or Sung nyang lol I do not have any problem with the other male lead because his character is good just like Yushin, but I think the problem was that most people prefer to see a younger guy than the older ones so their character got overshadowed by the second male lead which is really sad.
I like the way the emperor died compared to how Bidam died.
The ending seems so rushed.

This drama had been on my list to watch for a while but I took it off recently. I just don't like the lead girl at all, took a dislike to her in Secret Garden (which I couldn't get through) and my opinion of her hasn't changed since then. Then recently I tried to watch Healer cuz my mom liked it so much but just couldn't get into it. So now I'm not so keen on watching that guy in anything else. Sadly, I can't see me watching a drama that long when I like neither of the lead actors...

Welcome kyrimes! Thanks so much for joining us and for the great posts so far. Really appreciate your sharing your reactions to some of these shows with us...and with anybody who comes along in the future looking for opinions about the shows.
Things used to be busier here in the forum when we had more reliable Korean content on TV here in Chicago. Nowadays it's impossible for viewers to find any schedule info for the KBS station. The MBC station does a much better job of providing info but I'm not sure how far their signal reaches...and not as many of their programs are subtitled because they're a smaller, more local operation. So we have a smaller group there than in the past, but it's a great group and we're happy to have you.
Anyway, thanks for the observations about Empress Ki. As you can see, not a lot of us watched it so it's good to get whatever reaction we can get here. Interesting that you and others found so many parallels to QSD--I suppose the network was trying to re-create some of the same high ratings that QSD got. Can't be a coincidence.

I also didn't like Secret Garden, it was very popular back then but I couldn't get myself into it and ended up dropping that one. I am also not a fan of the guy who played as the emperor, although I liked him for a while in this series but up until now I still can't get myself to watch his other dramas. Healer for me...is just about the same as City Hunter (not to mention the female lead is also the same one from City Hunter) but I didn't like the healer. Hehe I am actually surprised that not a lot of you watched this drama... This drama is a bit more plot driven. And the best part of this drama is the way the characters all seem so smart and plotting against each other, it kept you thinking about what will happen next, try to predict only to find out you are wrong lol. It was so intense seeing them fight. But then HJW's acting in this one isn't really the best either, she's good at acting like a fierce woman but when it comes to sad scenes I couldn't feel her emotion, even when she had to act like she's in love and longing for the king it was so cheesy to watch. At least the rest of characters - almost everyone really did a good job in portraying their characters. The main villain made me scared just looking at him. And even though they were all evil and their actions weren't justified because they are just really evil, I still feel sorry seeing them die. And the characters are far from perfect - even Empress Ki. Although I understand that most of what happened in this series isn't accurate (Especially the first episodes) it's still a bit more accurate compared to other historical dramas. ajkIt's actually nice to have a forum like this, much easier to talk it will be nice if it's more popular. I am not from Chicago though, I just found this site after looking for forums for the drama that I watched hehe.
