Worst historical ever. What did Empress Ki ever do for Koryo? This is a woman who sent army to Koryo because King Gongmin got rid of her greedy brother. Her army was demolished by Lee Sung Gye.
Why is a freaking rapist portrayed as a romantic guy and a hero while the woman he raped comes out as an evil girl?
How does the Yuan emperor speak Korean?
Why is Yuan emperor dressed up like a Tang Chinese man instead of a Mongolian man?
Why does nobody in Koryo have Mongolian hairstyle or Mongolian costume? Koryo had to follow Mongolian customs until King Gongmin came along and changed everything.

The whole thing looks really stupid but anyone jonesing for a QSD fix will probably like this .
The really sad thing is from reading stuff on other sites you have all these fan girls who think the rapist was cute and dreamy and believe this stuff .Thus history is changed because of a drama .

This will start airing in Chicago probably in December. I had some interest in watching it but with Shin Don going here, and the Jeong Dojeon series starting up on 24.7 probably in February, I figured there would just be too many versions of the same characters going on so I reluctantly decided I'd skip this one.
Wow it looks like I made the right choice! After those trailers, have no interest at all in watching it. The characters, the way they look, it reminds me of the Blade and Petal series that just ran. And good grief not another cross-dresser. Wonder if this one will be any more convincing than the other two I've seen. Seems like an awfully strange story device to keep going back to.
This isn't to discourage anybody who wants to watch it--in fact, if somebody here does watch it, feel free to let us know what you think of it. But I'm going to try to catch the KBS series instead, and hopefully keep a thread going for it.

Cross dressing has a long history in theatrics.... A comedy from years ago, both a stage play and a movie titled CHARLIE'S AUNT'', the movie version had Jack Benny playing the "aunt". Black and white aamd very entertaining; although Aunt never had to use a sword or fire an arrow...
In Shakespeare's time all the female roles were played by male actors. Acting was not considered a proper profession for a fem,ale LOL aqn

There's gonna be yet another drama with all the same characters next year : MBC Heaven Breaking Emperor. This drama will also have Jeong Dojeon as a main character. Rumored actors so far are Han Seok Gyu(King Sejong in SBS Deep Rooted Tree) as Jeong Dojeon and Kim Namgil(Bidam in QSD) as Lee Bang Won(a.k.a King Taejong). None of these actors have been confirmed though. I think I'm gonna be watching both the KBS and MBC versions. Funny thing is that this one will start right after Empress Ki ends and Empress Ki might make yet another appearance in this drama(possibly as an evil woman as all the past historicals) if the drama's timeline starts during King Gongmin's era.

What are these TV people thinking? Too many series at the same time about the same thing (or close enough). It's just going to hurt all of their ratings.

Cross dressing ...Kabuki anyone ?
Truth i have a historical question for you . As far as us who only speak English but have read as much Korean History as we can (which is sadly not much ),and AKJ correct me but i do not think this is a spoiler (considering no one is watching this anyway ) but after Ki's army is defeated by Yi Sung Gye she just vanishes from the pages of history ,any idea what happened to her ?
Also how crazy is this ? ,why would anyone watch a drama about a woman who unites Goryeo and The Mongols and tries to bridge the gap between cultures ,especially after God Of War which was as anti Mongol as you can get .Talk about shooting yourself in the foot ,id really hate to imagine what these producers/writers are on to come up with such rubbish .Did they ever think maybe the audience will not take kindly to this ?.

It would be a huge historical spoiler if it were on the Shin Don board but it's not a problem here.
I've been wondering why MBC thinks sufficient numbers of Korean viewers will watch a series about somebody else's empire. The fact that an empress has Goryean blood, that's a pretty meager connection. Plus, if they deal with her early life and we have to see her ripped away from her homeland...maybe other people feel differently but I would NOT want to watch that.

She fled to today's Inner Mongolia after the Ming dynasty took over the Yuan capital. That is pretty much the only thing we know about her after her army was defeated by YSG.

SBS were rumored a few years back to be doing a drama about ex Goguryeo warriors fighting for Tang , they probably had enough sense to figure out it would bomb . Its going to be interesting at the end how they fluff over her losing to YSG .

Empress Ki sends army to Koryo because she already knows about how Yi Sung Gye will try to establish his own dynasty in the future and she's just trying to stop YSG's master plan of evil.

Empress Ki is getting better ratings than Suspicious Housekeeper and Marry Him If You Dare. I guess some are still watching despite the complaints about the series. 4MEN - Thorn Love MV (from MBC Empress Ki OST) The best thing about the MV is the song.

Not surprised really ,two factors one being Ha Ji Won ,the second is that it is pretty much Queen Seondeok 2 ,in so much as style and content . I wonder if the ratings will hold by the time she becomes a Mongolian Concubine ,and her and her wonderful brother try and unite Mongolian's and Goryeon's in peaceful harmony . This is like ,if Yi Soon Shin headed up a welcoming committee for the Japanese , gave them a guided tour of Joseon ,and told them to help them selves to all the treasures and artifacts .
