description: Joo Joong Won (So Ji Sub) is a rapacious CEO who is only concerned about money. His secretary, Tae Gong Sil (Gong Hyo Jin) is a dark and reticent insomniac who is burdened with the ability to see ghosts. Joong Won and Gong Sil are an unlikely duo in every regard, but they share one thing in common: they are both intensely crippled personalities that need a lot of help. Can the money hungry Joong Won recognize priorities beyond the dollar sign, and can the lonely Gong Sil ever live a life without fear? Together, strange as it may be, it’s possible in this unique dance between yin and yang.
I'll be watching this series and commenting on it each week like I did with CDDA.
Tae Gong Shil (Gong Hyo Jin) can see and interact with ghosts. She helps them relay messages to their loved ones. She has trouble sleeping and living a normal life because of the ghosts. She meets Joong Won (So Ji Sub) during one her ghost whisperer missions. She quickly realizes that ghosts go away when she touches him. She gets a job as janitor at Kingdom to be near him.
Joo Joong Won (So Ji Sub) is the CEO of Kingdom shopping mall. All he cares about is money. He doesn't believe in ghosts. When he was a teen, Joong Won and his girlfriend Cha Hee Joo were kidnapped. Hee Joo died then and her ghost seems to hang around Joong Won. Hee Joo might have been involved in the kidnapping. Joong Won seems to live with the guilt that Hee Joo died and he lived. It's rumored that Joong Won & Kingdom are cursed and that's why he hasn't gotten married. Joong Won thinks Gong Shil is nuts and only after his money. His uncle Do Suk Chul (Lee Jong Won) is vice president of Kingdom.
Kang Woo (Seo In Guk) is the new head of security for Kingdom. He lives in the same building as Gong Shil. It seems he got a job at Kingdom so he can spy for someone.
Tae Yi Ryung (Kim Yu Ri) is a model and celebrity endorser for Kingdom. She went to school with Gong Shil but they're not close. She was going to marry a soccer player but he called it off. Gong Shil showed up at the wedding with a message from his dead girlfriend and he changed his mind about marrying Yi Ryung. Now Yi Ryung wants to find out who ruined her wedding.
I like the series so far. It does deal with ghosts. Some might find them scary. The only thing I had an issue with from the first 2 episodes was the scene where Joong Won grabbed and held Gong Shil by her hair. He could have easily grabbed her by the arm or shoulder. I hope he won't be the typical rich jerk for long.
After a store owner at Kingdom is involved in his wife's death, Joong Won finally believes that Gong Shil can really see ghosts. Hee Joo possesses Gong Shil's body and pays Joong Won a visit. Joong Won sleeps while holding hands with Gong Shil so she'll be quiet. The following morning Joong Won decides to make Gong Shil his "radar". If she can find out from Hee Joo what happened to the ransom money from the kidnapping, Joong Won will give her full access to his body to hide from ghosts. We learn that Kang Woo is spying on Joong Won, and Gong Shil, for Joong Won's father. Kang Woo begins to get closer to Gong Shil and openly says he likes her.
When Joong Won's aunt and uncle inquire about his relationship with Gong Shil, he assures them it's nothing. Gong Shil just wants him for his body lol. Joong Won gets mad at Gong Shil for lying about Hee Joo's message for him and asks her to leave. On her way home, Gong Shil comes across the scene of a multi-car accident. Joong Won hears about the accident from Secretary Kim while waiting for the CEO of Giant Mall. Joong Won comes to the rescue of a frightened Gong Shil.
Joong Won plans to charge Gong Shil $100 for just touching him and $1000 for hugging him. The money will be deducted from her paycheck. He creates a special customer service position for her at Kingdom. In reality, she's just in charge of a storage room near his office. Gong Shil can't bring herself to tell Kang Woo she sees ghosts. She doesn't believe a relationship with him is possible. Joong Won's aunt tells Yi Ryung that Gong Shil ruined her wedding. Yi Ryung vows to steal Gong Shil's man from her. There are rumors going around Kingdom that Joong Won and Gong Shil are involved. That's who she believes is Gong Shil's man. A matchmaker for the dead notices Gong Shil can see and interact with the dead. She arranges for Gong Shil to meet with the dead grandson of Chairwoman Wang. Joong Won realizes what's going on and heads to Chairwoman Wang's home. The dead grandson was in love with the milk delivery girl. If Joong Won and Gong Shil can find her, Chairwoman Wang will invest in Kingdom instead of Giant Mall. They find the girl. The ghost of the dead grandson moves on. Kang Woo tells Gong Shil that he wants to be brave and get to know her. Gong Shil wants to give dating Kang Woo a shot.
After exchanging ghost stories with co-workers, Gong Shil learns that Kang Woo doesn't like ghosts. She loses all courage to tell him about her ability to see ghosts. A solider that deserted from the military and the ghost of his dog are wandering around Kingdom. The solider escapes from the mall. Gong Shil wants to reunite the dog with the soldier. Gong Shil and Joong Won follow the dog to where the soldier is. Joong Won convinces the soldier to turn himself in. Joong Won promises him a job at Kingdom if he doesn't get into any further trouble. Yi Ryung overhears Kang Woo on the phone telling someone that he'll continue spying on Joong Won but doesn't want to spy or lie to Gong Shil anymore. Joong Won and Gong Shil wait inside the store for the media outside to disperse. Joong Won explains to Gong Shil that after the kidnapping he has trouble reading. She comments that it would be great if he could read by touching her. The same way ghosts disappear when she touches him. After Gong Shil falls asleep, he touches her hand and leans in as if to kiss her.
Kang Woo tells Yi Ryung that he's only spying on Joong Won to protect him. She offers to help. Gong Shil arrives late for her date with Kang Woo. Ghosts end up bothering her the entire night. After Gong Shil gets home, a worried Joong Won calls her to "inquire" about the musical. He feels better when he learns she didn't see it and ghosts kept disturbing her. Secretary Kim is "sick". Gong Shil fills in for him. The ghosts of 3 abused and neglected children are hiding out in a doll. A kid, shopping at Kingdom with his mother, takes the doll home with him. Gong Shil and Joong Won realize from the kid's drawings that his mother abuses him. They take the kid to the hospital and have him taken away from his mother. The ghosts from the doll move on.
Kang Woo tells Gong Shil that him liking her was just a misunderstanding. A water ghost is using the Kingdom hotel pool as her personal hangout. Joong Won wants Gong Shil's help to get rid of the ghost. She's really scared of water ghosts and doesn't want to get involved. Joong Won tricks Gong Shil by giving her a gift certificate to the hotel. Gong Shil thinks she's there to rest but quickly realizes they are there on ghost business. Joong Won feels bad about the misunderstanding and apologizes. The water ghost turns out to be a woman in a coma. The woman returns to her body in the hospital and regains consciousness. Secretary Kim spots Kang Woo at Hee Joo's orphanage. Yi Ryung asks Kang Woo out. He declines but still rescues her from a mob on the subway. A phrase Hee Joo used to frequently use makes Joong Woon realize that Kang Woo is a spy for his father. Kang Woo explains that Joong Won's father was concerned someone connected to the kidnapping might approach Joong Won and sent Kang Woo to protect him. Hee Joo's ghost appears to Gong Shil in Joong Won's office. She confesses to being involved in Joong Won's kidnapping. She won't reveal who the other culprit that got away is. As Gong Shil is about to leave, Joong Won asks her to stay and protect him.
The inevitable "I'm a man. You're a woman." conversation occurred. Joong Won and Gong Shil are still dancing around their feelings for each other. If this is like other Hong Sisters dramas, ep 10 is when everything should be out in the open and we should get their first kiss scene.
Gong Shil comes clean to Kang Woo about her ability to see ghosts. A famous pianist is going to have a performance for Kingdom. He doesn't want to do it due to his wife's recent passing. Gong Shil and Joong Won bake a pecan pie for the pianist with the dead wife's help and pass along her message to him. The pianist prepares for the performance with Gong Shil's assistance. He discovers that Gong Shil can be possessed by ghosts when she's unconscious. He puts a sleeping pill in her tea. This allows his dead wife to take over Gong Shil's body. Joong Won is leaving for a business trip to China. He returns to Kingdom when his uncle calls and tells him that Gong Shil is behaving strangely. Joong Won runs into Gong Shil but quickly realizes it's really the pianist's wife. Joong Won kisses Gong Shil to get the ghost to leave. Joong Won leaves as Gong Shil comes to. She doesn't remember anything. A week later Gong Shil finds the necklace Joong Won left for her with the trash can ghost. Joong Won returns from his trip to China with a fiancee.
The engagement is a farce for business purposes. Gong Shil doesn't know though. This leads to bickering between her and Joong Won. He asks Gong Shil to be his Candy. She refuses. A scholar ghost is hiding inside a vase that was a gift for Joong Won's engagement. Gong Shil advises Joong Won's aunt and uncle to break the vase. The scholar ghost begins to appear in the aunt's dreams, which causes her to change towards her husband. Joong Won's uncle gives the vase to Joong Won. Joong Won breaks the vase like Gong Shil said they should and asks her to be responsible if it hurts his engagement. Joong Won's dad comes to Korea. He tells Kang Woo that someone that looks like Hee Joo keeps following Joong Won everywhere he goes. That means Hee Joo is either still alive or has a twin. Gong Shil is meeting with Yi Ryung and friends from school. Joong Won crashes the reunion. He tells Gong Shil his engagement is off because of her and drags her away. Once they are alone, he confesses to being in love with Gong Shil.
The CEO of Giant Mall dies. Joong Won and Gong Shil attend his funeral. The CEO was a crossdresser and wants Gong Shil's help in keeping this a secret from his son. The son, new CEO of Giant Mall (played by Lee Jong Hyuk), believes his dad had a mistress and Joong Won is trying to threaten him with this info. When he learns the truth about his father, he's understanding and burns the last photo of his father as a woman to protect his secret. Joong Won learns from the trash can ghost that Gong Shil did indeed receive the necklace. Hee Joo's twin, Hanna, gets closer to Joong Won's aunt. Joong Won tells his father that Hee Joo was behind the kidnapping. The press is going to release an article about Yi Ryung and Kang Woo. She tells them there's nothing between them. She's actually involved with Joong Won. Gong Shil overhears Joong Won and his aunt talking about her clinging to him. Her feelings are hurt and she leaves. Joong Won goes to Gong Shil's place. She pretends a ghost possessed her. Joong Won kisses Gong Shil to show her how he got rid of the pianist's wife.
Joong Won spends the night with Gong Shil to protect from any water ghosts. The press release an article stating that Yi Ryung is involved in a love triangle. Joong Won plans to renew Yi Ryung's contract. Joong Won and Kang Woo will stay quiet about Yi Ryung's triangle to protect her image. This pleases her. A mom searches for her missing son. The boy died in a hit and run accident. The criminal hid the body in the truck of his car. Gong Shil tries to figure out what happened to the boy and how to tell the mom that he's dead. Joong Won learns from Kang Woo that Hee Joo had a twin. He wonders if Hee Joo was really the one that died during the kidnapping. He asks Secretary Kim to find out whatever he can about Hee Joo. Secretary Kim seems to already know about Hanna's existence. Hanna continues to stick close to Joong Won's aunt seeing whatever she can learn about Joong Won. Gong Shil goes with the dead boy to the auto repair shop where the criminal works and his body is being hidden. The criminal realizes Gong Shil has figured what happened and plans to kill her too. Gong Shil texts Joong Won what she discovered and her current location. The power of love allows Joong Won to read the text. Joong Won arrives at the auto shop just as the criminal is about to stab Gong Shil. Joong Won gets stabbed in the back. He's rushed at the hospital. As Gong Shil anxiously waits outside the operating room, Joong Won's ghost appears in front of her. He wonders if he's truly dead. He thinks it's unfair but tells Gong Shil "I love you" before disappearing.
I was going to complain about the kiss at end of ep 11. They both just stood there pressing their lips together. I was also going to complain about Joong Won being transported on his back. He was stabbed in the back after all. That all seems moot after the end of ep 12. If it were any other actor, I'd say there's NO way Joong Won is dead. But it's So Ji Sub. He has a history of playing characters that die. I'm going to try and stay positive. I choose to believe he's still alive. He'll probably just wake up with amnesia or something.
Joong Won is still alive but unconscious. He thinks he's dead because he appeared as a ghost to Gong Shil. Creepy matchmaker lady from ep 5 strikes a deal with Gong Shil. She'll bring Joong Won back in exchange for Gong Shil's services. Joong Won will forget all his memories of Gong Shil. Joong Won wakes up. The last thing he remembers is what happened on the stormy night before he met Gong Shil. Joong Won's aunt doesn't want anyone to talk to Joong Woon about Gong Shil. Han Na continues to stick by her side. Kang Woo informs Secretary Kim that Hee Joo was behind Joong Won's kidnapping. Han Na might have been involved. It turns out that Secretary Kim is Hee Joo's and Han Na's uncle. It seems Hee Joo was the bad twin. Han Na was the good twin. Han Na was really the one that died in the accident. Hee Joo is now living as Han Na. Secretary Kim goes to England to look for Han Na not knowing she's already in Korea. The kids from Gong Shil's building remind Joong Won about Tae Yang. The dead Hee Joo wants to borrow Gong Shil's body. Joong Won goes to see Gong Shil and asks if she's Tae Yang.
I was right about Joong Won waking up with amnesia. At least it was because of the deal Gong Shil made with the matchmaker. Not because of being stabbed in the back. Gong Shil's accident remains a mystery. The stuff with the twins wasn't all that clear. The dead Hee Joo really being Han Na and the living Han Na really being Hee Joo is how I understood it. I could be wrong.
Joong Won doesn't remember Gong Shil but begins to fill bits and pieces of how important she was to him. Gong Shil goes to work for creepy matchmaker lady. She has to find single dead women to honor the contract. Joong Won learns that Gong Shil can see ghosts, including that of Hee Joo. Kang Woo informs Joong Won that Gong Shil was helping him find the lost necklace and solve the kidnapping case. Kang Woo apprehends the guy that stabbed Joong Won and killed the boy at Kingdom. Joong Won is surprised to learn he got stabbed while trying to save Gong Shil. This leads to another meeting between him and Gong Shil. He confirms that he appeared to Gong Shil as a ghost. Nothing else gets resolved. Gong Shil and the matchmaker attend the wedding of their client. They run into Joong Won and Han Na there. Joong Won finds out from his uncle that Gong Shil is now working for the matchmaker. She tells Joong Won that Gong Shil gave all of herself to save him. He can retrieve his memories if he gets back what he lost. Joong Won regains his memory and goes after Gong Shil. Hee Joo appears in front of Gong Shil. She's about to throw the necklace away but Joong Won stops her.
It's confirmed that Joong Won remembers everything now. More bickering between him and Gong Shil. Joong Won settles Gong Shil's contract with the matchmaker. Gong Shil follows coffee ghost to meet with Jin Woo. It seems that for the 3 years Gong Shil was hospitalized, they wandered around together as spirits. She wants them to travel together again. Secretary Kim is back after learning that Han Na is Hee Joo's twin. He got plastic surgery to make herself look different. Secretary Kim comes clean to Joong Won about Han Na and Hee Joo's uncle. They sit down and talk with Han Na. She claims to have had nothing to do with the kidnapping. Secretary Kim vouches for the kind Han Na. Sec Kim and Kang Woo resign. Joong Won is sure Han Na was involved in the kidnapping but tells Kang Woo he plans to let it go. He says the same to Gong Shil. Hee Joo visits Gong Shil again to ask for her help. Han Na is returning to England. Joong Won goes to the airport to confront her. All he wants is the necklace back. Han Na tells Joong Won the one he really loved was Han Na and not Hee Joo. Han Na approached Joong Won pretending to be Hee Joo. Hee Joo wanted Joong Won for herself and planned the kidnapping on her own. We get a flashback showing us that Han Na is the one that died in the accident. Everyone thought she was Hee Joo. Hee Joo was really the one behind the kidnapping. She's now living as Han Na. Gong Shil and Kang Woo set a trap for fake Han Na, really Hee Joo, to get her to confess. She admits to being Hee Joo, kidnapping Joong Won and letting Han Na die. Sec Kim appears with the stolen necklace. Hee Joo is arrested. Joong Won and Han Na say their goodbyes. Han Na doesn't want him to suffer because of her anymore. Gong Shil is leaving with Jin Woo. She pleads with Joong Won to let her go. A sad Joong Won watches Gong Shil walk away.
We got confirmation for what I suspected back in ep 13. The ghost Hee Joo was really Han Na. The alive Han Na was really Hee Joo. Glad the twins part of the story has been dealt with. We can get back to Joong Won and Gong Shil now. Those 2 have been kinda frustrating the last few eps. That tends to happen in RomComs when 2 people clearly want to be together but there's still 2 episodes left.
Joong Won enlists Yi Ryung's help to prevent Gong Shil from leaving. Gong Shil wants to leave to find herself. No one seems to understand this. Jin Woo tells Joong Won that Gong Shil wants to find out why she sees ghosts and if there's way to stop it from happening. Joong Won lets Gong Shil leave. A year passes by. Joong Won and Gong Shil run into each other. Gong Shil claims she doesn't see ghosts anymore. Joong Won pours her a drink to celebrate. Gong Shil gets drunk and a ghost possesses her. Joong Won realizes a ghost possessed and takes her to his place. They have a crazy night together much like the one from episode 4.
Joong Won learns from a drunk Gong Shil that she missed him. She wanted to meet him again without any ghosts or radar talk. Gong Shil's sister and Han Joo are now a couple. So are Kang Woo and Yi Ryung. Gong Shil moves back in to her old apartment. She made some money while she was away. She wants to buy the building. It turns out Joong Won is the new owner. Joong Won's aunt is pregnant. Joong Won and Gong Shil help the trash can ghost with his daughter's wedding. We learn that Gong Shil can see ghosts because she promised to help them while she was in a coma. Kang Woo walks the red carpet with Yi Ryung. Gong Shil invites Joong Won over. They kiss and declare their undying love for each other. The End.
Episode 16 was mostly filler. I don't mind Gong Shil leaving to find herself. I wish we had gotten more insight of what occurred while she was away. All we got was a 1 year time jump. This is my favorite series of the year. So Ji Sub and Gong Hyo Jin had good chemistry. The Hong Sisters rebounded nicely after their BIG failure. There were some hiccups after Joong Won's near death experience. That's an after thought once you've watched the final episode.
I have been reading these posts off and on as you made them and have decided to watch this drama. I have watched ep 1 and 2 so far and really like it. I was a little leary at the start when you made the comment about the ghosts and the first ghost (the grandma) was pretty scary looking, but after that it was just surprising to see them pop up all the time. The really scary part is that I actually recognize some of the actors from other dramas I have watched, usually I am not that observant! The main actor also played the main actor in the drama "Ghost" another drama I really liked. Thanks Knov!
