For the first time, Mi-ryung, the queen of self-centered, spoiled and childish (even by Min-joo standards), has an uncharacteristic flash of empathy and concern for someone other than herself. This is when she found out her father is having trouble reading, even with reading glasses. She seems as broken-hearted over this discovery as if she found out he's going completely blind.
It's nice to see she has it in her, but what a shame it has to be something that makes her look so ridiculously niave. Has she really never heard of a person needing reading glasses as he gets older? Is it really such a shock to her that a man in his 60s is having trouble reading, even w/ reading glasses and maybe needs a stronger prescription? Does she really equate this w/ the tragedy of going blind altogether? So much so that she plops down $50 of her husband's hard-earned money to the first charleton w/ a pharmacy awning and an open door that promises her a "supplement" that can improve eyesight?
Raspberries to her for being so silly and dim-witted, and what's going on in Tae-young's head that he'd go along w/ such a brainless and ill-thought-out scheme? We all know MR is stuck at about the mental age of 6, but I always thought TY had a fair amount of brains and better sense.
And speaking of foolish notions, did Sang-min really think his scheme to get his pesky father and nosy stepmother out of the picture for a few days would work? Did he really believe for a second that WK would agree to leave town when he's single-mindedly focused on Ji-min? And even if he did go, did SM really believe that getting WK out of the way for 5 days would be sufficient? If he's really serious about wanting to get his father off the subject of Ji-min, he should tell him the truth about his medical condition. WK instantly would transfer all his JM obsession to obsession over boiling up stews from various live animals to bring to SM every day in belief the broths offer medicinal properties. SM really missed a bet.
