Well, yeah, but all the male rulers get to concern themselves with these things. I'm not criticizing you, Sageuk, I'm just pointing out how deeply unfair a patriarical system is.
Oh, and PS it's also STUPID because you can ALWAYS tell who someone's MOTHER is. Sheesh.

That's part of the problem with being the "woman-king". You don't get to have a queen or concubines. All the kings (and generals) that we see in these dramas have a support system. There are the blood brothers/buddies (one of WHOM is bound to be stupid but kindly, the other smart and good-looking), kindly older mentor(s), and political supporters. And of course there will be a favorite concubine, maybe a sympathetic queen, and a doting queen mother. Deokman doesn't have any of that. Because she's a woman she has to guard against favoring any one beause they might decide to snatch power from her. And if she marries, then her husband would have power over her. Of course the writers rigged the story by taking away most of her prior support system. I believe the reason Queen Elizabeth never married was because any husband would have tried to take her power away from her.
