There continues to be no Korean films coming up on AMC-Niles movie schedule. Since they're the only theater showing Korean films in the region, I guess we're stuck with what we have when we get it. Niles told me their website is not reliable as it's been outsourced to Fandango who sometimes fails to update with the latest info.

Starting Fri, 12/06, Commitment, English-subtitled. Genre: Action/Drama/Brothers & Sisters/North Korea/Spy (runtime: 113 min). RSK release date: 11/06/2013. Description: "After completing his mission in South Korea, a North Korean spy (Park Sung-Woong) hopes to return to his motherland to see his son Myung-Hoon (T.O.P) and daughter Hye-In (Kim You-Jung) again, but he is betrayed by his own country and killed by a South Korean agent. She has the same name as his younger sister. Hye-In is the frequent target of bullies in their class, but Myung-Hoon falls for her. Meanwhile, Myung-Hoon finally receives his mission from North Korea. He is to locate a North Korean spy with the nickname of Big Dipper (Jeong Ho-Bin) and take him out. Meanwhile, a power struggle ensues in North Korea with the failing health of dictator Kim Jung-Il and Myung-Hoon quickly becomes a liability." Say, bird11, why were you keeping an eye out for this...actors, North Korean spy storyline? One commenter at asianwiki.com/Commitment_-_Korean_Movie said she didn't hate the film but was underwhelmed by it. So hope it lives up to your expectations!
A lot of 'North Korean spy/defector'-themed material has been on the radar the last few months, no small wonder with what's been going on in Korea: off the top of my head, Chgo Public Library's book choice Tchillekot and the June 2013 release of the acclaimed film Secretly, Greatly.
If that's what you're interested in, I'll post whenever I fall on it.

It's because of the lead actor, Choi Seung Hyun aka TOP. He's a member of Big Bang. bird11 is a huge fan.

Knov1-- so nice to say I am huge fan, because I am thinking I am bordering on being an "obsessed" fan Last week Taeyang was in San Fransico to perform at a club and sing a new song, since it was being streamed live, I decided to stay up to 1:30 in the morning to watch it-yeah, so much for being a responsible adult and getting a good nights sleep! ok, so back to this being a movie thread.......... (go T.O.P!)

First off-- THANK-YOU nuwildcats for starting and keeping this thread going.......I just got back from seeing this movie, seeing T.O.P.'s face staring out at me from a giant screen was definantly NOT underwhelming!!! (oh that is sooo embarrasing to admit ) I can't say I was underwhelmed by the movie because it wasn't really what I was expeciting-- some of the articles/previews I had read said that TOP played a spy who comes to South Korea and falls for another student-- so I was thinking this was gonna be like most of the dramas I have watched-- and the bully boy students picking on the unliked students was just like a k-drama-- but this was so much more violent than I ever expected! The shooting point blank of people and the blood spattering all over was what I would expect from a US movie and not a Korean movie (not that I had ever seen a Korean movie before today!) But when you watch k-dramas with "warnings" about people under the age of 15 watching and dramas are so tame compared to what we see on US T.V., I guess I was just naive to think their movies were just like their dramas! Overall, the movie was good, the story was a bit hard to follow- guess because I don't know much about North and South Korea ?- I was disappointed with the fact that he became a spy to save his sister, falls for a korean student and both of these characters were nothing more than pawns for the "bad" guys to use to get to TOP's character. I think the story line could have had more details to make it more interesting, other than Top's character I can't say I really cared about any of them. One last thing, I will say I thought Choi Seung Hyun did a very good job-- I read that he felt like he had to keep himself "locked" away from the world in order to stay in character, and all I read about TOP makes me think he is a quiet, kind, gentle guy -- which is why I like all of BigBang so much - and for him to act like such a cold-blooded killer was surprising to me. It will be hard to admit to people that I went and saw this because of all the news about relations between S and N Korea and the violence in this doesn't make either country seem like a pleasent place to visit... Now..... I hear they made a movie of G-Dragon's concert --- if I can only see that ........... (wow-- hope this post isn't to long!)

Yeah, K-Movies can be vastly different from K-Dramas. I should have warned you about that.

Not a big deal, but most of what I had read mentioned TOP's character saving his sister, and falling for a korean student-- not really anything was mentioned about the actual fighting as a spy so I was really expecting a totally differnt storyline-- maybe I was blinded by the fact that I could not picture TOP being in such a violent movie-- but like I said he really pulled it off, his image is so opposite of this that I could not belevie that he would really take on this challenge-- but showing a differnt side is always a good way to add other things to your career.

First off-- THANK-YOU nuwildcats for starting and keeping this thread going.... I'll second that; had no idea these films were being offered and I appreciate hearing about them. Sometime I'll have to make the drive over there and catch one. Not when it's single digits outside, but sometime.
