Today at 7:00 am, MBC Chicago (Digital channel 24.5) is off the air for approximately 2 to 3 days in order to move it's equipment from Schaumburg to Trump Tower. I know they were supposed to do this about a year ago, but I hope that more of the members will be able to receive their channel by the end of this week! I have been fortunate to receive a pretty good signal up to now and enjoy their programming. Enjoy!
Mod Note: Sorry, HAD to fix "it's" (which means "it is")--it's a pet peeve! LOL.

I wondered what had happened. Hopefully I'll be able to tune them in from their new location.

kpopfan, thanks for checking in here. That's great news--long overdue like you said, but it will be nice to see what they have to offer. If there's a show you particularly enjoy, bring it to our attention and maybe someone can start a board for it.
I happened to pick up the signal briefly last week...and immediately had to turn it off! Because it was one of the final few episodes of QSD. They're ahead of us, obviously. But maybe they'll start running some things that we can watch over-the-air and follow here. Thanks again.

I'm out in Crystal Lake. I was getting them pretty steadily from Schaumburg, but I don't know if I'll be able to get them now. We'll see.
Anyway, I'm truly glad for you guys closer in, because you've got something again OTA now.

I am currently watching QSD and May Queen. I also have recorded a few episodes of Horse Doctor, but have not watched them yet. You can find their schedule on their website (http://www.chicagombc.com/). However, this is a monthly schedule and doesn't show updates that occur during the month. They have been following the programming found on the MBC America website (http://mbc-america.com/xe/home). Just click on the MBC D Schedule link. I tried to insert an image of the schedule, but was not able to. Therefore, I will do my best to give you a summary of the dramas they have been airing.
Please note that these times are as close to what the schedule says and they have varied slightly in the past, so give yourself a little more cushion than I have included on either end if you are recording!
• The Great Queen Seondeok (EP. 57 - No broadcast on Tuesday) - M & Tu 10:00-11:40am • Flames of Desire (EPS. 29 & 30) - W & Th 10:00-11:40am • May Queen (EPS. 13 & 14) – Sa & Su 9:45- 11:20pm, M & Tu 2:20-3:50pm (rebroadcast) • I Am Flower, Too (EPS. 3 & 4) – W & Th 2:20-3:50pm • Horse Doctor (EP. 3 – No broadcast on Tuesday) – M & Tu 10:00-11:30pm, Tu & W 3:50-5:20pm (rebroadcast) • Missing You (EPS. 3 & 4) – W & Th 10:00-11:30pm, Th & F 3:50-5:20pm (rebroadcast) • Rascal Sons (EPS. 6 & 7) – Sa & Su 3:00-4:30pm, Sa & Su 5:50-7:30am (rebroadcast)
There also are a couple of daily dramas that I have not included above. I included the episode numbers for this week, but I am not sure about some of them. They may actually airing an earlier episode than listed above.
I hope more are able to receive this channel following their move. I was one of the many fans that were lost following the change at Channel 41 (KBC). As I mentioned before, I really have been enjoying their programming and hope they continue to provide us with K Dramas!

Thanks for all of the good info; much appreciated. Looking at the full schedule on their website, one thing that could be a problem for us here is that the serial dramas don’t generally run in the evening when most people here can watch them. But we’ll see how things go...I’m sure when they start reaching a much bigger audience they’ll take another look at things like program scheduling.
One good thing about the delay is that they’re almost done with QSD by now. They passed us up a few months back, and I had worried about new people showing up here and dumping spoilers into the QSD board. Looks like that won’t be a problem now.
ramm, don’t give up hope—you may be surprised. That Trump Tower antenna goes up to nearly 1400 feet; tall enough that hopefully you can still get it. You just never know. I’m in Arlington Heights, just a few miles from the old antenna, and I could hardly ever get the old signal. There are some high-tension power lines near me that may well be the reason, but even so...Let’s just hope everybody gets the thing. And if anybody gets left out, we can contact the station and see if they can tweak the signal. I don’t think anybody else is transmitting from that antenna yet, so a lot of this is unknown territory for everybody.

As of tonight I'm getting a great signal on Channel 24 and all five additional subchannels, including 24.5. It's almost as strong as the major stations' signals. So the Trump Tower transmission is up and running.

As of tonight I'm getting a great signal on Channel 24 and all five additional subchannels, including 24.5. It's almost as strong as the major stations' signals. So the Trump Tower transmission is up and running. I've always got channel 24-x at 75% signal strength, and since they moved the antenna it's gone to 82%. The big difference is that the SNR(dB) has gone from 15 to 27... That's a lot of reading, but when it comes to SNR and digital TV... <14 is unwatchable >14 to <18 is the same as old style TV >18 to <23 is what you get with Dish HD or cable HD >23 is true HD TV... Little channel 24 is now broadcasting more Mb/s of quality TV than Dish HD... At 27 the picture is AWESOME... Also 61-2 is CCTV-9 Chinese TV that shows lots of documentaries and news... Mostly subbed... And 61-3 is CCTV-4 which shows some also cool Chinese stuuf... Mostly subbed...

That's great news. I scanned for new channels and get MBCD 24.5 now. The signal is weak but maybe I just have to adjust my antenna a bit. I'll mess around with it in the morning.

Well, this is depressing. I can't get it in at all now. What the heck am I going to watch now?

dreamie, where are you located? It may just be that you can get it if you reposition your antenna, or else do a rescan if you have a converter box. If you've lost the signal entirely, you should contact the station and let them know. I'm sure they don't want to lose any viewers if there's anything they can do about it.
Channel 61, ducky that was totally news to me--thanks for the tip. Looked into it some more. WCHU 61.1 is a Mexican network that used to be on 9.2. And then the two you mentioned. When I rescanned I picked all three of them up, but unfortunately the signal is directed nearly straight south of the Loop (transmits from the Hancock building) so people in the north or NW suburbs will have trouble picking it up. I'm not getting it at the moment and it seems like it will be hit-or-miss. I did see that there's an English-language newscast on 61.2 (Chinese state news, wouldn't trust that farther than I could kick it). And some historical documentaries on 61.3 with English subtitles, and those look really good so far. Watched one last night about the unearthing of the tomb of an 11th-century Khitan princess. Very interesting stuff.
P.S. And now I've stumbed on the reason that the signal is pointed south. It broadcasts on the same digital frequency as a major Milwaukee station. So they have to point the signal away from Milwaukee. Wonder why they got stuck with that.

Channel 61, ducky that was totally news to me-- If you have problems with 61... The same documentaries are on channel 20-3 seven days a week from 2 o'clock until 3 o'clock... They also carry many other Asian news shows... I'm watching 61-3 now and Chinese and Korean versions of history are not at all the same... I won't post what I'm seeing, but how could tiny Korea force China to do anything??? They made us do it??? Communist TV at it's finest...

Tuned in Tuesday and have an excellent picture. Watched the Horse Doctor and some musical show-nice to have a Korean channel again. Good Luck to all who try to dial 24.5.
