Ahhh, a cryptid story....are there any details of this supposed event? I've just read the Annals of Joseon Dynasty account of the event and it is just described as a "monster" here, not a "water monster." I guess the film director took a liberty and just added a water in the front. On May 9th of 1511, a monster with a face of a Sapsali and a body size of a foal appeared in the palace and quickly disappeared. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SapsaliOn June 26th of 1527, there was a rumor of the same monster appearing again. The court officials made an appeal to the king shrugging the account off as an urban legend and called for the arrest of whoever spread such ridiculous rumor. Few days after the appeal was made, the monster recklessly knocked on the window of Queen Dowager's room and harassed the Queen Dowager with a "strange object." Then there is an account of a horse-like monster appearing in palace on May 21st of 1529. The same monster apparently appeared again during King Injong's 1st year on the throne. Accounts of so called "monster" stops here.

Behead The King is out on BLU/DVD import, no subs. It seems to be another costumed sex romp like The Treacherous.
Also out on Import BLU/DVD with Eng Subs is The Last Princess. Obviously much better than Behead The King.

So is The Last Princess worth a look? I've been curious about that one.

From Dae Jo Young! I remember how much you liked that battle.
Let us know what you think of the movie. If it's good I'll get a DVD. It's a terrific story to work with--the Goguryeans hollowing out the big dirt hill, what a great strategy.

It hasn't even started filming yet by the way. Filming is set to start in August.

Myeongryang must have started a trend of dramatizations of historical battles in Korea in which they fend off the evil invaders.
Speaking of which, truth once mentioned the development of movies about Namhansanseong (a fight that the Koreans lost though it counts as fighting the invaders) and the Battle of Salsu way back and haven't heard about it since. THey're either in development hell or the project has been scrapped.

THey're either in development hell or the project has been scrapped. Salsu got cancelled long time ago and Namhansanseong is currently being filmed. Namhansanseong is less about fight and more about the internal struggle between Choi Myeong Gil and Kim Sang Heon.

Aww Salsu got scrapped. Was a reason ever given as to why? Budget? Creative differences?

Aww Salsu got scrapped. Was a reason ever given as to why? Budget? Creative differences? I have no idea. There was a news about the movie possibly happening, but then it was just never mentioned again. It wasn't officially cancelled. Everyone just assumes it's been scrapped since there is no talk about it whatsoever.

Everytime I think of how a Salsu movie would work, if we go by a true to text approach, all I can think of is it being a tragedy of the Sui. Most of the fights Goguryeo had with Sui ended with losing alot of them plus held back by poor leadership-the only thing that would be high stakes to the Goguryeo is the fact that the invading army is larger than they are. The Sui are driven by a need to prove their overlordship throughout all of Asia but its fatal flaw is pride and arrogance. As for the Goguryeo side, I'm not sure if a character arc can even be applied. Myeongryang has the Koreans overcome by fear only to get the will to fight back. You really can't do that with the Goguryeo side since they had more victories; the most I can think of is that they'll initially be initimidated by the invasion only to gain confidance in victory as the fighting goes on.

At least Namhansanseong is still going ahead.
Anshi Fortress was one of the highlights of Dae Jo Young. I wonder how DJY holds up eleven years after its airing?, considering Emperor Of The Sea really did not. I was watching Legend Of The First Kings Four Gods again, and promptly quit when Gwanggaeto ordered his troops not to kill anyone in battle (yes he really said that, in the drama i mean ), that was it for me .
Seems Japan are jumping on the Roaring Currents band wagon with Sekigahara in September .
