I actually seen all three. My thoughts: Assassination I thought this one sucked. Age of Shadows I may have to rewatch this one again in an attempt to get a better appreciation for it, but I was surprised at how average it felt? Its premise was what got me to watch it but I didn't find it compelling for some reason. Ode to My Father Yeah this one's real good. The entire family loves it. Personally liked all of them, but everyone's entitled to their own opinion. Try watching Burning if you haven't yet. If you liked Yu Ah-In's acting in The Throne, you will like his acting in Burning as well. Not new films but here are some historical/historical setting movies that I have missed posting info on when they were released : + 1 more in addition to the last post. I went through this thread and realized that I haven't yet properly introduced this movie. I couldn't just pass by as someone who always posts infos on historical/historical setting dramas/movies whether they are good or not. The Face Reader (2013) Time period : King Danjong of Joseon Dynasty Synopsis : Main character's ability to tell a person's fortune and guess the person's character by reading the person's face gets him involved in a power struggle between Prince Suyang and general Kim Jongseo Song Kangho as Kim Naegyeong(fictional character) Lee Jeongjae as Prince Suyang(a.k.a King Sejo) en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sejo_of_JoseonBaek Yunshik(King Taejong in SBS Deep Rooted Tree) as Kim Jongseo en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kim_Jong-seo_(general)Trailer Personally liked this one as well although I don't usually like historicals that gives a fictional twist to a real historical event. I'm willing to be forgivable to movies. I'm more picky when it comes to dramas because they are a longer commitment.

Just thought I would pop in here and say that I rented "Ode To My Father" from Netflix and watched it tonight. I didn't recall it being mentioned here, but saw the post when I did a search. It was really good, although very sad at times to watch. The scene where people were leaving signs all over looking for lost family members was shocking to me--- not knowing alot about Korean history I guess I never gave it much thought that so many families had been torn apart. It made me wonder how many families were acutally reunited. Even if the main charactors were fictional, the storyline was very good. It made me really think about this time peroid. Guess I will have to pay attention to this thread more often and find some more good movies to watch!

It was really good, although very sad at times to watch. The scene where people were leaving signs all over looking for lost family members was shocking to me--- not knowing alot about Korean history I guess I never gave it much thought that so many families had been torn apart. It made me wonder how many families were acutally reunited. The ones united in that reunion of 1983 are small numbers compared to the majority who got separated with their familes in the north. SK originally wanted to do a joint family search investigation with the north, which of course was rejected by the NK government. In the year 1988, there were 130,000 people that registered to meet their family members in the north. Today, the number reduced to about 50,000 as these people are mostly old and died out. There have been about 20 family reunions with family members in the north since the year 2000 with the last one being held in 2018. North Korea only allows 100 people to go at each reunions. At the rate of 100 people each year, it is highly unlikely that most of the 50,000 that are still alive will get to meet their family members. I hate North Korea. Going back to the 1983 reunion, here's a legendary clip of an old man cussing out Kim Il-Sung during the 1983 union. He looks like he's from the father generation of the people of 70~80 age range today.

Not new films but here are some historical/historical setting movies that I have missed posting info on when they were released : Another missing historical setting film info Seondal: The Man Who Sells the River (2016) Time period : King Hyojong of Joseon Dynasty The main character of the film is Kim Seondal, a legendary conman from Pyongyang who is said to have sold water from the Daedong River claiming that the river belonged to him. It is unclear if he was a real person, but his story has passed down orally through generations. His deeds as a conman became so famous that Koreans still compare modern conmans to Kim Seondal today. (Ex. News articles with titles such as "Modern Day Kim Seondal Arrested") en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taedong_RiverYu Seungho(Kim Chunchu in MBC Queen Seondeok) as Kim Seondal Jo Jaehyeon(Jeong Dojeon in KBS Jeong Dojeon) as Seong Daeryeon(fictional character) Trailer

Upcoming film RampantTime period : Joseon Dynasty Hyeon Bin(King Jeongjo in film The Fatal Encounter) has been cast as Prince Kangrim(fictional character) The movie is about fictional prince named Prince Kangrim fighting against zombies during a zombie outbreak in Joseon. Checked out this film today just because I loved Kingdom so much but had to skim through the 2 hrs of movie in like 40 minutes since it was so bad. No wonder this movie only had 6/10 rating. If Kingdom is closer to a traditional historical without the zombies, this movie is basically a MBC style fusion historical without the zombies. Prince doesn't talk or act like a prince, a low-class girl talks to the prince like a modern school girl talking to a friend. The movie was so cringey I couldn't bare to watch the full 2 hours. The main bad guy somehow doesn't turn into a zombie by cutting off his infected hand and instead turns into some kind of a Superman. The prince is your same-old invincible fusion historical lead character killing off like 400 zombies alone without getting bit. Horrible. A very bad knockoff version of Kingdom. Do not recommend.

Watched this film yesterday because it was directed by the director of Kingdom and it did not disappoint.
The Tunnel, another masterpiece by the director of Kingdom that I watched about 2 years ago, was also very good.
I highly recommend both two movies if you haven't seen them yet.

Watched this film yesterday and it was the funniest movie I've seen in a long time.
This movie is No.1 in Korean Box Office right now and I understand why after watching it.

(From Wikipedia) A team of detectives who start a chicken restaurant for an undercover drug-bust operation, but end up busier than ever when their chicken restaurant becomes famous for its food. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Extreme_Jobp.s. And by the way, where the heck did you learn English so well? I know you're Korean and live in Korea...been meaning to ask for a long time. Schooling, or living in an English-speaking country? I think I said that I live in Socal area like 2 times here already lol Sorry I was visiting Korea for a month and I had no internet connection at the place I was staying. Thanks for the translation, truth, as usual (and I'm amazed to hear there's a place in SK that doesn't have Internet--isn't it the world's most wired country?). There was this one time when I said "I was visting Korea for a month" and you left a comment to that post as well.

Really want to see Extreme Job, it sounds really hilarious . Try to see if there's a local theater in your area showing it. It's currently on limited release in US theaters right now.

I think I'll just wait for it to show up on Netflix. Dunno if it'll even show up there at all, but alot of Korean films do, so chances are high.
