In yesterday's episode Mi-Ryung wanted to go shopping for maternity wear and Grandma told her not to go alone. Tae-Young was suppose to go with her, but he got too busy at work. Stubborn MR did not want to wait, so she went alone. Grandma was mad at her for disobeying and said she was going to hit MR as punishment. TY asked Grandma if he could take the punishment in her place. Was Grandma just teasing to scare MR? Or is it normal for elders to hit their younger family members as a form of punishment?

I've never seen grandma hit her grandkids (though I've seen other elders do so on occasion) and I think grandma's too nice to ever actually do it. But, the fact that she'd even *threaten* to give Mi-ryung a whack showed, I think, just how furious she was with her for being so careless about things while she's carrying a child.
But Mi-ryung is so dense sometimes I still wonder if she actually got the message!

Who knows? I think I remember seeing her get up. Maybe she was going to go get the wacking stick. ;D I remember in So This is Love, when Mrs. Cha thought the little boy, forgot his name (only grandchild, son of the oldest brother and Dohae), was stealing money, she took a switch to the little boy's legs! Ouch. MR looked pretty scared to me. For those women who've been pregnant out there, isn't the first trimester supposed to be the riskiest? Grandma was probably legitametly worried and angry.

She did beat Tae-young once, w/ a broom, when Young-man came by to tell her that TY had spent the night w/ MR in a hotel and now they'd have to be married. But, from what I recall about that "beating", TY doesn't have much to worry about even if Grandma is serious. She's not exactly Mike Tyson. I think when she threatens to whip MR, as she does from time to time, it's all talk. I don't believe she'd really hit MR...and certainly not while MR is carrying her great grandchild. But I agree it shows how furious she was...although, what the big deal is for a woman early in a pregnancy to go shopping by herself, I don't know. I think she angrier about MR's over shopping, which is how Grandma perceived it. LOL! When Grandma said she'd never seen anyone buy so much at one time, I immediately thought she should've seen it when Min-joo came home from clothes shopping for Yuna that time! ;D Jade

I think she angrier about MR's over shopping, which is how Grandma perceived it. Actually, I don't think that was it. Remember when Tae-Young first came home? She asked where Mi-Ryung was, and when T-Y explained what had happened, her first words were, "She went shopping alone? And she's not back yet?" This girl went out (and she's stil a girl), didn't get home until very late, and didn't bother to call and let people know she was going to be late. Grandma not only WOULD HAVE worried if she'd known M-R was going to be on her own, she DID have a scare when M-R didn't show up. An M-R who always says, "I'll never do it again!" but who always manages to come up with a new one. I won't see the next episode until this evening because I tape the morning ones, but I almost hope Grandma DOES beat her. After all, what harm can a little broom dusting from an elderly person do a strapping, healthy girl who walks around everywhere in stilt heels while pregnant. Bo

I'd like to give MR a little broom-dusting! Spoiled rotten & inconsiderate. She's been married 5 years. Grow up already!! She cries to her parents over every little incident. Her mother encourages it by supporting her immature outbursts...

Her mother encourages it by supporting her immature outbursts... And don't you think they're a lot alike, mother and daughter? Seeing the parents really explains the daughter. The father is like their little teetertotter, rocking back and forth, keeping the even keel. Good thing he thinks that's a happy family life. Bo
