Aw gee, so NOT a spoiler...(I'm guessing the name distinction may have been in Episode 26 but just got lost in the translation).
But if you're sending her over to discipline me, then by all means it's a spoiler.

I'm pretty sure the name of Yushin's land was mentioned in the episode, but was definitely mentioned in Ep 10 or 11 (whenever they got back from the war). Wouldn't expect anybody to remember back that far. Anyway, shouldn't count against you as a spoiler.
For a guy who is always claiming he's not very smart, Yushin has very neatly: 1) eliminated the threat against his family (at least for the time being) 2) found a better home for the Gayans (at least for the time being) 3) provided Deokman with a powerbase, by getting Wolya to pledge loyalty to her (at least for the time being).
Take that Mishil.

Okay, I went back and dug this up. It was Episode 12, like you said when they got back from the war and the king was passing out rewards. It was Yushin who got the land, you're right; good job. His father got the promotion and Yushin got the land...and the king said it was "the land of Amnyangju." Which I guess is Amnyang, and different from Samnyang...? Maybe it's just something that makes obvious sense to Korean viewers but not to non-Koreans. And he got the entire land? How big? You know what, never mind; probably have beaten this to death by now.
Interesting that Yushin would have to ask his parents' permission to barter away the land that he earned himself...but again, cultural thing.

The relationship between a child and parents is very paramount in Korean culture, though you probably figured that out already from all the dramas you watched
This sounds silly, but I actually once asked my parents if I could spend money that I earned.

You're right--I haven't watched very much of the contemporary stuff but even in the few shows I've watched, the strength of the family relationships really surprised me. Of course it's in the historicals, but it was very interesting to learn that it's still so important.
And no, I don't think what you did was silly...Too little control of one's life is bad for most people, but on the other hand, it seems like Western families are so fragmented that a lot of the wisdom that comes with age and experience never gets passed on to a lot of younger people who really need it. So it never struck me as better or worse, just different.

Actually, it depends on how old you were, sageuk. If you were a teenager, then yes, I think it's a good idea to get a parent's input on where the money goes or if it's spent at all--whether they're Korean or Amazonian or British or whatever. Especially since the parents are, you know, paying for food and board and all. LOL
So I guess we are all agreed? Yushin can give the land away? And mugwump, I so totally agree with your assessment of Yushin's improved performance. It's the smarter pills, I'm sure.

Absolutely he can give it away...but if it was his land to give away, then HE could have helped the Gayans earlier too, before so many of them died. I suppose that supports the idea that he's getting smarter.
