^Not to mention at least Tree With Deep Roots had alot of factual research put into it I'm assuming despite it being a fictional story such as a secret society and a guy with a (misguided) grudge
I actually support that misguided guy, or his uncle's ideal. I think Jeong Dojeon's Joseon would have been better. Taejong ruined everything. Jeong Dojeon is the real man responsible for guiding Yi Songgye instead of this "Great Seer" dude by the way. Yi Songgye would have started another dictator regime in Koryo instead of starting a new dynasty without Jeong Dojeon.
I forgot to mention this on my response to hapha :
I feel that this drama will ruin my childhood memory of Yi Songgye and foundation of Joseon dynasty from the glorious Tears of Dragon. Kim Musaeng is the only Yi Songgye for me(unless there are future factual sagueks on YSG with better actors) and I want to prevent Ji Jin Hee from ruining my childhood memory.
I was referring to Jang Hyuk's character but yeah.
Am I correct in saying at least Tree with Deep ROots despite the fiction had alot of research put into it?
I guess you can say they put a lot of research on Jeong Dojeon's ideals and process of making Hangul.
Fictional parts are : Sejong cussing all the time, Jang Hyuk and Shin Se Kyung's characters, some fictional ministers, Garion, fictional bodyguard of Jeong Dojeon, a barbarian dude working for Garion, flying people, guy imitating animal sounds, Shin Se Kyung's friends, and many other fictional characters
Mistakes: 1. Taejong's fantasy armor, 2. Taejong was wearing blue, which was only worn by Yi Songgye.
one thing i noticed in this forum is that some members are 'less appreciative' when it comes to fictional historicals. and they want the show to be as close to what history says. hihi.
there's nothing wrong with it to me, actually. but how about giving it a try, instead of flicking away the thought of watching it?
I enjoyed Emperor Of The Sea ,Geunchogo ,Kingdom Of The Winds ,Ja Myung Go ,Conspiracy In The Court ,Daemang ,Jang Gil San ,Chuno to name a few .
I agree with Truth though in that people believe this stuff ...look at Japan with 47 Ronin /Musashi two cases where fiction has been taken as actual history ..yes the people did exist but all the dramas and films are far from the truth .
Flying People !!!! glad i passed on Tree/Roots ..i hope Seer does not have people flying on wires like some HK film .
Any word on who's playing Jeong Mongju? Fun fact. I'm a distant relative of the minister.
the Minister of FUN? lol...
From Dae Jang-geum: Sun-dol: "Are you trying to dry me up and kill me? Why do you say the same things over and over every day? Rather, come and hit me once! Aigu!" But then: Dr. Lazarus: "By Grabthar's hammer, by the suns of Warvan... You shall be avenged."
Though most historical drama may not be factual but it does makes you look up and research on them which is the most interesting part for me in watching sageuk. Dong Yi was the first sageuk drama I got into, followed by Yi San and then Dae Jang Geum. I guess they are not over top heavy sort of sageuk so it's easy to follow.
Right off the bat this looks more fusion than historical drama . The seer looks like he could be in some 80's Goth band like Gene Loves Jezebel or Flesh For Lulu not to mention Daniel Ash's (Love And Rockets ,Bauhaus ,Tones On Tail guitarist ) Korean twin .
It also looks like a myriad of late 80's early 90's Hong Kong fantasy swordplay films so not much hope for this one but fans of Arang /Faith will flock to it ,and it will be a massive hit as such historical dramas we knew and loved will be a thing of the past . Come back Dong Yi all is forgiven .
