It's great that Yushin is going to lead the Shilla army into combat. It would be even better if Bidam would just cooperate and do what he does best---individual combat. Someone is going to have to take care of this mysterious "ghost" who wears a red helmet and leads the Baekje guerilla forces. Bidam would be perfect for that task.
The little girl who spied out Wolya's hideout seemed like an echo of little Jang Geum, when she was used to send a message to the Prince (who became the King), when she carried the four bottles with messages written on them, in Dae Jang Geum.

Episodes 53 & 54
I wish the writers could have eased us into this next phase of the drama. The tone of the show became so dark after Mishil's death and Deokman became the Queen. I really hated seeing Seondeok become a completely different person. (Really miss the Princess) Now I understand why she is so paranoid, unhappy and burdened. It would've been nice if her mother had stayed by her side instead of going to a Buddhist temple. It's the least she could have done for the daughter she hadn't seen in years and also fought to save the royal house from Mishil.
It was good to see Seondeok and Chunchu using their wits once again. It's about time she put Chunchu above Bidam. He turned into a dictator and was loving every minute of it. I don't like the radical change in him either. He had his crazy moments before but now he's so devious. Speaking of devious, Yeomjong and the remnants of Mishil's faction have to go. Please!
QSD's conversation with Seolwan was very interesting. She knew about Mishil's will and guessed it concerned Bidam. The analogy between Mishil and herself was sad. Mishil could be loved and marry because she wasn't on the throne but Seondeok must remain alone because of her position. Mishil gained power by those she surrounded herself with but the Queen has to keep people at arm's length so they don't try and take her power.
That was a pretty bold move going into the Baekje camp with such limited information. At least Yushin knew some things from former battles and Daeya Fortress to try and bluff the commanders. Why couldn't they jump over or around those barrels and logs? Most of them saw or heard them coming.
BTW The one commander played Choi Haesan (dealt with gunpowder and weaponry) in GKS. The younger one was in High as the Sky, Wide as the Earth.

I'm sorry you guys, I know you must have posted this but my eyes are going blooey and I don't want to read back too far...where are you viewing this program again? Also, if one has a chance to purchase it, is it worth it? I ask because Hanbooks is having an "up to" 20% off sale, which is actually not much of a "deal" for this drama considering that it's a two volume set, but still, here are the links: Vol.1Vol.2Bo

Bo, you can watch on aznv.tv, mysoju, dramafever and viikii to name a few. There will be another volume since each set has 20 or more episodes. The drama is scheduled to run for 62 episodes. That would be about $210 plus tax for the entire set.

But, again, what's your opinion of the thing? Is it good? Compared to something else you've seen--I don't have a list--lol... Did you happen to notice that all the versions of IYSS that you can get now are only 33 episodes? I can't remember if you were watching that one [ oh for pity's sake I just noticed your avatar LOL], but I find it rather disturbing. They cut out a lot of exposition to shorten the running time. Pooh. At least they're releasing the full version of Sundeok. Bo PS - I looked this up on koreanwiz. That's a REALLY GOOD cast list!

Is this show good? Heck, yeah. One of the best I've seen. It has an advantage over some of the epics (YSS AOW DJY) in that it's relatively short, so there is hardly any filler. Every episode is extremely well written and really holds your interest and I don't think a single one has been a stinker. The characters are all 3-dimensional, good chemistry among the leads, and Mishil is completely compelling. Also hardly any sappy music or annoying comic relief (the things that bug me the most when I watch these dramas.) Finally, as in Lake Wobegone, "the women are strong and the men are good-looking." ( I was about to add "and the children are all above average" until I remembered Hajong).

I agree with mugwump. Queen Seondeok is definitely worth watching. Two thumbs up. I haven't watched a drama since IYSS that I can't wait until the next episode. Much of it is fiction but not to the extreme like Iron Empress.

Red flag for me if you spot good sales, TheBo!! ;D 57 ... I'm of two minds that QSD is playing double cards with Bidam. On the one hand, yeah, she wants to be reminded she's human, a woman. On the other hand, oooo very shrewd. She played around with his heart just right. And she scores 10/10. He's putty. ;D But I think it's gonna bommerang, cause I think she laid herself open to his blade. Will she die of a broken heart? And yay, 10 for Yushin. 0 for Paekche. Been looking for 58 .... doesn't seem to be around as yet.

Ep 57 I think Seonduk is being totally open with Bidam. Just like she put everything on the line to try to protect and keep Yushin over the Gayan problem, she is putting everything on the line to keep Bidam and prevent him from going over to the dark side, offering him love and trust. She said something to that effect to Chunchu I believe. Again, it's about "earning" a person.
Ep 58 Saw it without subs. I sure hope what I think is happening is not happening. With only 4 episodes left I hope the writers are not doing an about-face. Deprived of a satisfying conclusion to the Mishil conflict, I'm going to be really disappointed if the end does not come down to a spectacular martial arts fight between Yushin and Bidam. On the other hand, I'm usually dead wrong about what's going on when I watch without subs. Keeping fingers crossed.

Things are back to normal since episodes 55& 56. I felt like I was watching a completely different drama after Mishil passed. I'm so glad Bidam's plotting fueled by jealousy against Yushin was thwarted. It would've been so wrong not to have Yushin lead the army as he did in history. Episode 57 & 58It was funny to see Lee Yo Won's (Seondeok) cousin in the show. He first appeared when Wolya and his men were practicing with the crossbows which finally came in handy. Great scene. It wasn't hard to figure out there was more than one red helmet and regiment. Why didn't someone just shoot an arrow or two at the "red helmet ghost"? All along the drama has been excellent but I had to roll my eyes at Godo throwing that huge Styrofoam rock like in an old Hercules movie. The big log wasn't much better and the fact that the red helmet guy was holding the other end and was stronger than Godo. Seondeok agreed to marry Bidam , Bidam gives Yushin Munno's maps of the Three Kingdoms and writes a pledge to give everything up if SD dies before him. I think she really does love Bidam for many reasons but even though she's lonely, she's not in love with him. The marriage has a purpose but I don't feel she's playing him. Yeomjong was really peeved about the maps. The Queen should have gotten rid of those traitors when she had the chance. Even Lord Jujin is part of the left over Mishil faction. Just when Seondeok puts it all on the line and trusts Bidam those scheming @#&*%$ have to ruin things with their plot with the Tang envoys. The trust between Bidam and her will be destroyed now.

Episode 57
I did not see that coming. Suddenly, Seonduk/Deokman shows a tenderness toward Bidam that is totally absent from her treatment of Yushin. She had earlier told Yushin, when she decided to become the Queen, to simply forget about any romantic attachment to her, and begin treating her as "her majesty." And Yushin, at great cost to his own personal desires, did as she commanded. And yet, here she is rewarding Bidam for not treating her as "her majesty." That strikes me as totally unfair to Yushin. I don't like it.
On the war front, it was a bit weak that everyone was puzzled by the detached unit's ability to travel 90 miles in a short period of time. The first explanation that popped into my mind was that there were two different units---at least---and not one unit travelling at hyper speed. Anyway, at least Yushin devised a clever way of solving the riddle.
