Did anyone watch Squid Games on Netflix? It's the most watched series in Netflix history apparently.
I binge watched the whole season last Saturday and thought it was really good.

Haven't seen it but have heard a lot of praise for it. Apparently it took the creator a very long time to get anyone to buy the series--it's always nice to hear a story like that work out so well.

My mother asked if I had seen it, which I have not.
Twitter and tumblr folk are talking about it, which I have not seen done regarding a Korean work since Parasite.
Wowza.

The drama series My Name is by the same director who did extracurricular. This is going to be a lot darker than the usual cop drama. It starts on Netflix this week.

KBS King's Affection(2021) Director : Song Hyeonwook(first historical setting drama) Writer : Han Heejeong(KBS Gunman in Joseon) Time period : King Sejo of Joseon Dynasty Synopsis : Love story of a princess who grows up as a cross-dressed prince Park Eunbin(young Empress Heonjeong in KBS Iron Empress) has been cast as Crown Prince Lee Hwi, who is a cross-dressed girl. In this alternate history timeline, Crown Prince(or princess) Lee Hwi's character takes over the place of King Yejong and becomes king after King Sejo, meaning Yejong doesn't exist in this timeline. She falls in love with Jeong Misu(real existing person), the son of Princess Gyeonghae. Princess Gyeonghae was daughter of King Munjong(older brother of King Sejo) So basically a relationship between relatives. This is possible in Goryeo or Shilla, but impossible in Neo-Confucian Joseon society. Nobody realizing the Crown Prince is actually a girl until she becomes a 'king' is also pretty much impossible. Start date : Oct 11th, 2021 Looks like they changed all characters to fictional characters to avoid historical distortion scandal (The Joseon Exorcist scandal effect) Main character's father is not King Sejo, but a fictional character named King Hyejong(fictional character based on King Yejong). Main character falls in love with a ficitonal character named Jeong Jiwoon(instead of real figure Jeong Misu) She starts cross-dressing as a boy to cover for her twin brother due to him getting assassinated outside of palace. For the life of me I will never understand how this cross-dressing thing got to be so popular in historicals.
Thanks truth, as usual, for the info; will make sure this gets into the timeline when I do the year-end update.

Upcoming tvN time slip fantasy drama "Live Up To Your Name" Estimated start month : August 2017 Kim Namgil(Bidam in MBC Queen Seondeok) has been cast as Huh Yim, a doctor from the same time period as the famous Huh Joon, who time slips into 2017. (No English wiki page on him, but he was a real person) Kim Ahjung(Baek Hajin in KBS Emperor of the Sea) has been cast as Choi Yeongyeong, a female doctor from 2017 who falls in love with Huh Yim. It will be Huh Yim who time slips into 2017 first, but the drama will have both characters time slip into past and future back and forth. Binged this show on Netflix yesterday because I was bored and had nothing to do. It was good for time-killing. Obviously not a show to watch if you want history, but it was good for time-killing. What I don't understand whenever I watch those time slip shows is how do they understand each other? Granted, Korean during Imjin War(time period where main character is from) is probably a lot closer to modern Korean than the Korean in time period from other time slip dramas(like the drama where Choi Young time slips to future or the drama with modern girl time slipping to EWG's time period), but it was still different from modern Korean. Also, the main character adapts to the modern era too quickly. A 16th century man adapts to 21st century mindset just by watching some TV. Historical mistake - Why are the Japanese invaders running around killing every peasants for no reason? Why are they wasting their gunpowder on some random peasants instead of preserving them for important battles? Japanese did not go around killing peasants around in the early stage of the war. They only started doing that in the later part of the war when they started losing battles and were cornered.

m.news.nate.com/view/20211221n08735?s=09 Another drama seems to be in the works, named Age of Passion (Partisan). Written by Lee Hwan Gyeong, of Tears of the Dragon/EWG/Dawn of the Empire fame. The drama is about General Hong Beom Do of the Independence Movement. No affiliated channel mentioned, but it's expected to start casting early next year. Lee is reported to have researched the Independence Movement extensively, working on the script for three years.

Didn't truth say earlier that it was rumored that after Taejong Yi Bangwon, KBS would do Hong Beomdo?
If this gets through, then it's his second (I think) work taking place during the occupation.

SNOWDROP is the latest drama to run into trouble over historical accuracy .Over 200,000 people have signed a petition to get it off the air . Basically its a vehicle for Black Pinks Kim Jisoo to show the world at large she cannot act . Its set during the student demonstrations of 1987 .I saw the first two episodes and given the subject matter it was pretty bad . Its set in the 80's but all the women are dressed in 50's,early 60's clothes . The men dress in contemporary styles . The secondary characters are more interesting than the leads though the cast pretty much sleepwalk their way through this . It would be best if they did yank it . Kim Jisoo is lucky she has a day job because acting is not in her skill sets .

Sean to an extent . Aside from the students and the male lead most of the cast play right wingers . There is a real fascist cop whoβs out to kill Jung Hai In . After killing all the left wingers in a car chase the one wounded survivor Jung escapes and hides in a dorm where he meets Jisoo .
I felt the right wingers were depicted as the bad guys and of course the left winger as the hero . Obviously we have no idea which direction it will take . Iβm sure itβs a doomed romance and the righties will probably win in the end . Itβs going to take a better person than me to stick with it as itβs just tedious .
There are scenes of students demonstrating and the cops busting heads and for sure most of the cast are playing right wingers . There seems to be little balance . I would add I have rarely seen a drama with so many unlikeable people in it . Jung Hai In is the only decent person in the whole cast .,
