This sounds so stupid. I just realized something. This director has been riding on the coattails of successful television series in the past some years. Jeong Dojeon-Six Flying Dragons Mr Sunshine-Nokdu General (this one is admittedly pushing it but what those two have in common is that it takes place during the twilight years of the Joseon dynasty) And now this with Kingdom I deleted the post because it seems that drama either got cancelled or may have just been a rumor. I posted the info here after reading one article, but it may have been called off or may never been planned in the first place as there has not been any update regarding the drama since. I will re-post the info if it becomes official. Hopefully, it's never going to happen. For people that are waiting for traditional historicals like myself, sageuk, and ajk, it doesn't look like we will ever get one in anytime soon, which is unfortunate. Traditional historicals just aren't profitable enough for TV stations to produce again. Our only hope is Netflix somehow picks up a traditional historical after seeing the success of Kingdom.

4 new historical setting dramas coming up next year (none of them are traditional) 2 of them are completely fictional. KBS Royal Secret AgentStart Date : December 21st 2021 Director : Kim Jeongmin(KBS Princess's Man) Writer : Kang Minseon(first historical setting drama) Time period : Joseon Dynasty Synopsis : Drama about secret royal inspectors during Joseon Dynasty * All main characters are fictional * L(from boy idol group Infinite) has been cast as Seong Yigyeom, a secret royal inspector(main character) en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Secret_royal_inspectorKwon Nara(from girl idol group HelloVenus) has been cast as Hong Dain, a Damo en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Damo_(Korea)MBN Stealing Destiny(2021) Director : Kwon Seokjang(first historical setting drama) Writer : Kim Jisu(first historical setting drama) Time period : King Gwanghae of Joseon Dynasty Synopsis : Main character kidnaps a princess by mistake Jeong Ilwoo(King Youngjo in SBS Haechi) has been cast as Bawoo, main character(fictional) who kidnaps Princess Sugyeong by mistake This Princess Sugyeong could be a fictional princess, but because the article specifically states that the drama takes place during King Gwanghae's reign, she could be the daughter of King Gwanghae whose name is not written in historical record. Actress playing her role hadn't been announced yet. 2 of them are about real people but are fusion-romance genres. MBC Red Sleeves(2021) Director : Jeong Ji-In(first historical setting drama) Writer : Jeong Haeri(MBC The Emperor: Owner of the Mask) Time period : King Jeongjo of Joseon Dynasty Synopsis : Love story between King Jeongjo and Consort Ui Park Hyesu(young Shin Saimdang in SBS Saimdang) has been cast as Consort Ui en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ui-bin_SeongKim Kyeongnam has been cast as King Jeongjo en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jeongjo_of_JoseonSBS Hong Cheongi(2021) Director : Jang Taeyu(SBS Painter of the Wind) Writer : TBA Time period : King Sejong of Joseon Dynasty Synopsis : Love triangle between Hong Cheongi, Prince Anpyeong, and a fictional meteorologist named Ha Rahm Ahn Hyoseob has been cast as Ha Rahm, a fictional meteorologist Hong Cheongi was the only female painter to have served a government position during Joseon Dynasty. It is written in the historical account that she was very beautiful. Prince Anpyeong was the 3rd son of King Sejong, who is written to have been a very good painter The premise of this drama is fictional as Hong Cheongi and Prince Anpyeong were never in romance relationship in history. The roles of Hong Cheongi and Prince Anpyeong had not been cast yet.

Another Gwanghae drama, the last two sound more interesting, even though the story of Consort Ui was done really well in Yi San.
Hong Cheongi sounds like it could have potential,Painter In The Wind was good.
I have been watching The king Eternal Monarch on Netflix, its not bad, plays like a historical drama. Im not crazy about the female lead. (the girl from Goblin) she is Ha Jiwon light, in fact i fast forward through all the scenes of her and Lee Min Ho kissing. The rest of it is pretty good, great cinematography and musical score (the instrumental tracks, not the pop songs ).

It's not a Gwanghae drama. It just happens to take place during King Gwanghae's reign. The main character is a fictional character. Gwanghae is just a side character if he appears at all. Hong Cheongi sounds like it could have potential,Painter In The Wind was good. Unlike Painter in the Wind, which turned someone historically male into a female pretending to be a man, Hong Cheongi was an actual woman in the court. I have been watching The king Eternal Monarch on Netflix, its not bad, plays like a historical drama. The rest of it is pretty good, great cinematography and musical score (the instrumental tracks, not the pop songs ). It actually received a lot of criticism in Korea for too much sponsorship advertisements in the drama. Many were making fun out of the drama saying that it was as if it's a 1 hr long commercial rather than a drama. Wait, they're doing a love story between Jeongjo and Uibin again? Well, it's been 13 years since Yi San. One difference is it won't turn Uibin into a painter like they did with Yi San because that was something Yi San writers made up. Not saying this drama isn't fictional, but it probably won't take fiction from another drama in it.

Song Joong Ki and Jeon Yeo Bin have been cast in the tvN drama Vincenzo. It's about a mafia lawyer. Choi Jin Hyuk and Park Joo Hyun have been cast in the KBS drama Zombie Detective. I think the title explains what the series is about.

Lee Yoo Ri and Yeon Jung Hoon will play the leads in the upcoming Channel A drama Lies of Lies. It's about a woman who goes to jail for a crime she didn't commit. She gives birth to a girl while in jail. The baby is taken away from her and adopted by a news reporter. When the woman gets out of jail, she approaches the news reporter with the hopes of marrying him and becoming her daughter's stepmom. It'll air in September. Lies of Lies was supposed to air earlier this year but got delayed until September. I like the pairing and the plot is so crazy that I'm actually interested. If the trailers look good, I'll put up a board for this series.

Just wanted to let everyone know that I have been watching "The King: Enternal Monarch" on Netflix and have really, really enjoyed it. It is about 2 parrallel Koreas -- one spelled at Corea and the other Korea -- and what happens when the two start to interact. I thought the acting was good and the plot well written.
