Another upcoming historical
SBS Great Wind-Water (October 2012. 36 episodes)
Director : Yi Yong Seok (SBS Iljimae)
Go Su will be playing the main protagonist Ji Sang, a fictional character who helps Yi Sung Gye to become king.
Ji Jin Hee(King Sookjong in MBC Dong Yi) will be playing Yi Sung Gye.
Ahn Gilgang(Chilsuk in MBC QSD) will be playing Muhak, a Buddhist monk who helps Yi Sung Gye.
Kim Byung Gi(Queen Sataek's dad in Gyebaek, Kim Wonsoong in Iron Empress) will be playng Choi Young, who will also be played by Lee Min Ho in SBS Faith.
I don't understand why they would make up a fictional character. Jeong Dojeon basically founded Joseon for Yi Sung Gye, so I have no clue why they are coming up with a fictional character as main protagonist.
Interesting facts on Yi Sung Gye : People in Kaesung(capital city of Koryo) and Pyong Ahn Province hated Yi Sung Gye for ending Koryo, so they came up with a pork dish called Sung Gye Yook, in which they pretend that pig is Yi Sung Gye, twist the pig's neck, and pummel the pig before cooking.
It seems that a lot of people were against the foundation of new dynasty. In addition to faithful Koryo subjects like Choi Young and Jeong Mongju, even the members of Yi Sung Gye's own family were against him.
Yi Sung Gye's older brother Yi Won Gye stayed loyal to Koryo and tried to convince his younger brother to stop his plan. Yi Won Gye committed suicide after Yi Sung Gye's coup.
Yi Sung Gye's cousin Yi Yeon Gye was loyal to Koryo. He quit his government job after foundation of Joseon dynasty and told his children to never work under the traitor dynasty.
Yi Sung Gye's first son Yi Bang Woo was loyal to Koryo. He tried to persuade his father to stop his plan. He quit his government job after the coup. He refused to become a prince in a new dynasty and went back to his hometown. He became an alcoholic out of the grief from the fact that his own father put an end to his beloved Koryo.
