I think I'm getting to the level where I'm not so nitpicky. Maybe I'm getting old. haha but I think this change came about when I watched a China historical drama not long after QSD. The Chinese production was truly a historical drama. I think they went all out on the history books. While interesting, it was also ... dull. I'm not saying they didn't do an excellent job but there was no ... 'fun' factor.
As far as saeguks go, it's fine with me if they took artistic license/creative liberties in their interpretations as long as they don't go overboard. If they want to keep it straight, that's good too. There's the choice and variety for the viewers.
The greater percentage of QSD viewers weren't that that interested to know whether the saeguk was historically accurate or not anyway unless it's seriously bombastic. They liked the story (and the actors) and that's good enough for most of them. The same goes for me.
I kinda like LYW. I got two of her works, Surgeon BDH and QSD. I took a look at one sample of her 2012 Horse Doctor on YT but I've to confess that was a mistake. I couldn't see her as anything but Deokman/QSD when it comes to saeguk. As for contemporary dramas, I still don't have much taste for them. They all tend to look alike.
I'm a bit lost for saeguk though I'm contemplating acquiring Goddess of Fire dvds come Jan, I overspent for Christmas. Story is based on Baek Pa-sun, renowned as the first female potter and porcelain artist in the Joseon Dynasty who was part of the group of artisans forcibly uprooted to Japan when Japanese invaders attacked. It was due to her that new types of pottery and Japanese art were advanced.
