Ep.71
Eight months have passed since the previous episode. DS+2 are promoted into the “Dragon Guard,” Tebi Mamah’s guys have gotten into the guard, too, and she learns San will disband the Five Armies, which as we all recall are under Noron control, and replace them with Dragons.
Song is in her last month, and D-Hye has summoned her midwife. However, it turns out Third Girl (“Hwa Bin”) is pregnant too and in her last month, and D-Hye is all excited by it and ignoring Song. In fact, Hwa Bin is getting priority in all things, including tonics and a birthing house. Chobi is irate, but Song philosophical. This might be because D-Hye’s midwife assures her H-B is having a boy. San brings a book to Song that he’s written with military training for the son she’s going to have. It’s a girl, she says. “Even better; watch out, I may like her better than I do you.” [Sweet.]
Mr Jung has been driving the Office of Waterways to distraction, but he finally solves San’s problem with moving thousands across the river—pontoon bridges. He wakes San up in the middle of the night to show him, to Mr Nam’s disgust. The next day, San goes to his father’s grave, then announces he’s moving it. The Norons, especially Tebi-M, are in a dither. Will he start punishing his father’s persecutors?
Off Kang tells a guard (the D-S lookalike from an earlier episode!) to guard San’s private office carefully. That guard is sheared off by a birthmarked man we last saw training with Sir Min. [Can we be more obvious?] Birthmark spies on a meeting between San and Sir Chae, in which San reveals Yeong-jo’s last will from his “secret box”—a decree giving San the right to put the Sado plotters, including Tebi M, to death. Birthmark reports to T-M, and she calls a meeting at her estates—a risk she’s willing to take. Meanwhile, D-S finds out about his lookalike's “reassignment” and is puzzled by this.
Song, 10 days past her due date, is leaking amnio fluid and not experiencing labor pains. D-Hye, Hyeoui, San, D-S, Uncle, Suh, Kang—all in a terrible uproar. They give her herbs to induce labor, which don’t work. If she doesn’t give birth, both could die. San harasses the doctors. D-Hye tells them to save Song’s life even at the cost of the child. And Song assures her unborn child that she’ll protect it no matter what.
Hwa Bin goes into labor. D-Hye rushes there. Chobi cries on Lady Kim’s shoulder, only to return home and learn Song has also gone into labor. D-Hye tells Hyeoui to watch over Song carefully (while she presumably attends to Hwa Bin). Uncle and Artist Lee wish for a prince. Mr Tak bets the damos on the outcome. San paces his office and tells Mr Nam he feels like his blood is drying up.
Hyeoui can’t stand it any more and is about to burst in on Song’s birthing chamber when a baby’s cry is heard. Shortly after, D-Hye hears a child’s cry from Hwa Bin’s quarters. She tries to hide her disappointment that it’s a girl, while Song’s attendants are thrilled to tell her she has a boy. San receives all the news. Hyeoui thanks Song for removing her burden of seeing there is an heir.
While D-Hye rocks her grandson and tells Song she’s a good girl, San visits Hwa Bin and tells her all his children are precious, and he’ll love his daughter more than anyone. [Probably will.]
Chobi is totally peeved San hasn’t visited by next morning, but he then arrives. San swears to Song that he’ll raise her child as Crown Prince and eventually, King.
The end.
