Ep.29:
San is so shocked by the queen’s involvement that he refuses to believe it and scolds Insp Hong, telling him to make sure he gets evidence to show Princess and Jeong are behind everything. Similarly, Lady Hye later protests to Hong that the queen is above suspicion, but agrees to “watch” her to prove/disprove it. She also forbids Hyeoui to visit the Queen for now.
Artist Tak receives word that he won the commission to paint the King, even though everyone thinks Mr. Lee is better at portraits. To Song’s surprise, Tak asks her to assist her in making the portrait. In spite of his personal dislike, he recognizes her superior talent. She agrees to do it.
The letter Dae-su threw into Jeong’s yard was a forged letter from the now-suicided Arsenal Chief, sent at San’s order. When Jeong’s men go to get him, they are captured by Hong and Dae-su +2. Then Hong searches Princess & Jeong’s private home compound for “for secret books from the merchant bribes“ and lets Jeong know they trapped his men. Hong then asks Y-J for three more days, assuring him he has evidence to implicate members of the royal family. However, San tells Hong to follow the money paid out by Lord Kim, and Hong finds evidence of it (10,000 yang) in the confiscated books.
Jeong has a private drink with Hong and assures him he and Princess are merely the limbs, not the head. He tells Hong he can account for the 10,000 yang. Hong tells San the queen is the only one with that much power over Princess. Hong then tricks Lord Kim by telling him that Jeong and Princess will testify against the queen. Also, that Jeong says he gave 10,000 yang to Kim to buy gunpowder. Kim begins to fall apart and starts confessing some of the details in his anger. Hong assures Kim the only way to save the queen’s title, and his own life, is to confess everything to Yeong-jo, who “knows everything already.”
They drag Kim, bound, gagged and blindfolded, to the King’s library office. While San looks on from the shadows, Kim confesses to Y-J that he tried to kill San out of fear because San and Lady Hye suspected him in connection with Sado’s death. Y-J doesn’t buy it and tells him the Queen will be charged the next day, so Kim confesses everything about the plot and tries to clear the Queen completely of any blame, saying she tried to stop him. Of course, Y-J is stunned to realize she must have known about the plot before it happened. Kim realizes his error.
