MTR, you are a fount of knowledge. That whole story is even more hilarious than the one I heard before. Poor Sergio. Big of Kurosawa's people to agree to let him release in Mexico--again, poor Sergio.
I wasn't asking if Japanese actors went to Korea, I was asking if Korean actors were working in Japan in the 60s (for instance, Kim Myung-Soo's father). Since the Japanese and Korean industries were both going great guns at that time, it's probably a coincidence as you say. But the guy in the movie looked enough like Wakijaka in IYSS for me to stop and say to myself, Is that his dad? And I think I can tell one Asian person from another BTW lol...
Thanks for your list. I don't know if we are actually getting into Samurai movies at this time, but if/when we do, we'll certainly have a head start.

I just stuck the list in Bo as honestly i think Kurosawa did not make the best Samurai movies, but his influence is so massive the other directors like Gosha and Kobayashi are overlooked . Same can be said of Leone and Spaghetti Westerns to be fair .
I wonder if the name of the actor in Yojimbo can be located?, than i can either research or ask friends in Japan who can read Kanji and dig up much more info than myself. Than the mystery can be solved . Rather if you can find the characters name and ill dig up everything on the actor .

Well, I was thinking it might be easier to find out Kim Myung-soo's history than to actually find out about the guy in Yojimbo. If we found out his father was a security guard, then it's doubtful he'd have been in a Japanese western, er, samurai flick. But as I said, all you get when you try to find out about KMS in English is info about that K-pop kid. Do you know of any Korean language sites that might have more info about KMS? You know, so I can stare at it and cry because I don't know any Korean.
Yes, I'm sorry, I can't tell one alphabetical figure from the next. I'm very ashamed.

Well i tried searching Kim Myung-Soo 1966 and found his blood type is A/B (Lol ) and he was born in August 1966 in Seoul and that is about it in English . We need one of our Korean speakers to research him .

Hey, MTR, FYI we watched Sanjuro, which was much funnier and lighter than Yojimbo, and then we watched one from the blind samurai (Zatoichi) series, ummm, can't remember the title, the one where he rescues a baby and returns it home, and THAT was hilarious.
Even with my limited knowledge (mostly acquired here) of wuxia, samurai and Korean drama/movie conventions and historical precedents, I find watching these movies a much richer, layered experience than when I was a teenager and they just seemed weird. So that's something.
Mifune died in 1997, but I'm looking into resurrection, in which case Bob better look out. What a guy.
