Kim Tak Gu has a heart of gold. The writers give him good lines. If they weren't careful, what he says sometimes could come out kinda cheesy. However, they're doing well so far. ;D
Up to episode 16 now. It's really moving now and has got me absolutely hooked.Great last scene in this episode.
If this drama is really based on a true story, which is what I read somewhere, this Tak Gu is some hero.RESPECT to you,Kim Tak Gu.

I am getting so confused. I'm watching this and 'Giant', both about poor boys, taken in by wealthy families, growing to manhood against a background of the turbulent 1970's/'80's. Sometimes, I have to pause a moment to remember which back story is Takgu's, and which is Gangmo's

Isn't the smell of freshly baked bread a give away? Ah, if only there was smell-avision Or maybe not. I used to work next door to a bakery, and when they burned a batch. ugh!

This is a very good drama. But, I am getting so sick of poor boy meets rich family syndrome and suffers the sling and arrows of evil stepmother or evil step brother. Can't they explore different senarios?

This is a very good drama. But, I am getting so sick of poor boy meets rich family syndrome and suffers the sling and arrows of evil stepmother or evil step brother. Can't they explore different senarios? I know what you mean. However,it's a winning formula so this underlying theme will just keep being churned out! In reality, this sort of thing does go on though.I don't mean evil stepmother, etc but the poor guy striving to get out of poverty and the wealthy guys protecting their wealth/status.So the dramas are sort of realistic to a certain extent. It's all just a game,a game called LIFE which is fine if you know how to play it right. From the words of an old song,The Gambler..."you've got to know when to hold 'em,know when to fold 'em, know when to walk away 'n' know when to run....." ;D

Yes the plot has been done to death ,even this year we had two horrible lame comedies with this theme ,still bread is so well done it rises (no pun )above the cliched storylines .

If one thinks two-'dimensionally',then this has the same tired old plot. However,I like to think of this drama in at least three 'dimensions'.It's really got depth in its plots.Further to this, Tak Goo is not just the run-of-the-mill good-guy hero.Rather he takes kindness and honesty to another level. He forgives and forgets so quickly that I'm impressed. He really loves his mom so much that it's admirable. He's just one of those rare characters that slowly but surely, works his way into your heart. Know anyone in real life like him? Nationwide Korea,it's past 40% viewing.Man,it's nice to have company in liking a drama. Oh yes,I must mention Tak Goo's father's right-hand man.He is one character that really gets under your skin and you really feel like knocking him out. Arggghhhh!!!

Takgu is certainly likable, but Gangmo is cooler.
One thing I really like about 'Baker King' is how all the characters have their own agendas, and don't trust (and aren't trusted by) their supposed allies. All this duplicity enables you to think of all sorts of directions the plot may go. And, yes, boy, am I waiting for Mgr. Han to be taken down.
It's also nice that the fan subs for this are not lagging too much, which lessens my urge to plow ahead without subs, leading to great confusion.

Takgu is certainly likable, but Gangmo is cooler. You're right,Gangmo is cooler. The reason why I like Takgu is that loyalty is very important to me.He's the kind of friend that will stand by your side when your back's against the wall and you need the unconditional support of a true friend.I'd take that over COOL anyday of the week.Just my personal preference.

Kang Mo/Majin is insecure, he is aware of his birth, being not his true father's son, he is jealous of Tagu because he know tagu is the real so, he is talented and is loved with an easy personality.

You are so right about Majin,Grayson. Gangmo that I'm referring to in my above post is the hero in GIANT.

Just to be sure there's no confusion, I was referring to Yi Gangmo, the protagonist of 'Giant', not Go Mijun, the step-brother who wants to crush Takgu. You can tell Gangmo is cool: he wears a black leather jacket all the timeMijun is enjoyable to watch as well. He is the only one who knows the BIG SECRET besides his mother and Mgr. Han, but they don't know that. My big prediction, having watched though ep 16, is: Mijun wrote those letters. Judging by my drama predicting success in the past, this has like a 10% chance of happening.

Possible SPOILER (I'm not sure whether this was revealed by episode 16 You missed the big clue? The letters are always addressed to Little Madame.
