I think Rae-won needs to lay off the spray tan. Otherwise, I have no quarrel with this series so far except for the disgusting fish bladders. It's like something out of "Pan's Labyrinth."

Yes, I wonder about those fish bladders. I thought fish was highly perishable. How can they keep those fish innards hanging around for days, some of that time out on a table and not refrigerated, then eat them? The hero came up with a very attractive-looking arrangement, though, almost like Fimo beads, assembled and sliced. It looked like fish skin wrapped on the outside. monsterguide.net/how-to-make-fimo-beads

I missed this paragraph the first time: The drama is based on cartoonist Hur Young-man's popular namesake cartoon that first appeared as a newspaper series in 2002. The journey of the ambitious and talented chef-to-be Lee Sung-chan was also released as a movie, ``Le Grand Chef'' in 2007. There was a film festival at the Siskel Film Center in the spring, and I just noticed in the brochure that they showed Le Grand Chef, the movie. The plot was different, though: Korean cuisine commands a starring role in this tasty romantic comedy centering on the efforts of a young chef to rescue his reputation after he's booted out of culinary school following a food poisoning debacle that may have been orchestrated by a rival. After a respite as an organic farmer, Sung-chan's friends urge him to revive his career by entering the most prestigious top chef competition of them all. The game is on when he faces his old cooking school nemesis, who will stop at nothing to win. I wonder what went on in the comic series.

This drama would intrigue me more if not for KRW. I'm likely in the minority but I don't think he's half the actor he's made out to be. Regardless of what he's supposed to be portraying, he essentially ends up playing the same character over and over again. Some might argue that he's typecast but I just think he's not that good of an actor.

Knovi - I know an American actor just like that - LOL - He's been cast as a farmer, shoemaker, doctor, dishonest lawyer, and Catholic Bishop'; essentially, he plays HIMSELF -- I think some people need a better acting coach . . I know exactly what you mean about playing any and all characters alike - and it is BORING to watch. But hey, I'm not a paid critic so . .

...But hey, I'm not a paid critic so .... Well, I'm not paid but I seem to have become a critic (Well, I'm paid for OTHER work), so I'm interested to see if he (KRW) bucks up and "grows into" his role. Which American actor are you talking about, Soapy? I doubt if he visits this board, he probably won't get his feelings hurt if you "out" him. ;D I don't recognize him from the roles you list, I'm dense that way. Bo

Oh my - he would be so surprised to know that you didn't recognize him from his THEATER appearances; he's been in many TV commercials; he also did some movies - one of which was the scene in My Best Friend's Wedding - he was in the scene at the White Sox game in the Sky box - with Julia Roberts - I doubt the name: Seamus Mallon would be familiar to you unless you are a devotee of the theater. He does many plays, some at Stepping Wolf etc. , he did The Informer, Shadow of a Gunman; The Island; and many others. Very nice person but really needs to FEEL his roles a bit more, in MHO. LOL

Not Seamus Mallon the former Deputy Leader of the nationalist Social Democratic and Labour Party in Northern Ireland? Or, do you mean Seamus Mallon the Irish professional rugby player? LOL. That's what I get for googling. I can't say that I recognize his name, but I have probably seen him at some point if he's part of the Chicago theater scene. That "feeling the role" seems to be a problem for a lot of actors, though...lol...
