It looks like that KBS has cancelled its plans for 'Ondal the Fool', which was supposed to be the next historical drama. KBS will air a modern drama after Empress Cheonchu ends, followed up by a Japanese colony era historical drama 'Ahn Joong Geun'.
Ahn Joong Geun is a Korean patriot who shot the Japanese minister Ito Hirobumi at a Chinese train station. He died shortly after he was arrested by the Japanese army. He is well-respected by Koreans, but is considered a terrorist in Japan.

Thanks for the update, truth--looks like we won't be seeing any historical stuff for a while, unless WOCH reruns something.
Have to say, that subject doesn't sound very appealing to me. Maybe they can make an interesting story out of it, but even so....Plus, is it really a good idea to air something so controversial, given all of the tensions in the region right now? Oh well, please do keep us posted. They may change it again for all we know.

Empreess Cheonchu is also going to end 4 episodes earlier. The low rating drama was orginally set to end at Episode 80.

So does that mean 56 episodes or 76? I had heard 80, then I heard 60 and I thought 60 was the latest firm number. Forgive my confusion, but if you can confirm one or the other then I'll be able to finalize the schedule thread once and for all.

I Checked Han Cinema ,K Wiz and Dramawiki and they all list 60 so i really don't know . To the topic at hand it seems right now MBC have the market on Historical Dramas as "QUEEN SEON DUK " has been extended to 80 episodes , They did the same last year with "YI SAN "and both dramas were created by the DAE JANG GEUM /SEO DON YEO (sbs )team . Sadly it does not help any of us as we only get KBS (NOW IM MISSING AZN ,THANX TO COMCAST ). I dont know its a sad state i love the historical stuff and it will be sad to see them go . I think KBS needs to look at the Historical Dramas that did really well ,or find out what subjects people want to see ,that said many were exited about IE but i really think its the historical tinkering that has been the downfall of this one in so much it just seems to assume that because nobody knows what really took place as KBS claim than they can get away with it ,sadly for KBS people not only did not buy it but felt that KBS insulted them by expecting them to believe this stuff .

Hooray! “Queen Seondeuk” started this week on MBC America. It’s still a little hard to know how much I’ll like it, as the first two episodes pre-date the birth of QS. There’s a little too much of the mystical aspect being played (like a huge, glowing egg that goes floating around the palace yard ) but it still looks pretty promising so far. One positive aspect: seeing (for once) a Korean historical drama that’s based in Shilla. Finally, something different! And I really like the evil queen in the early going, but I wonder if she’ll stay around once QS reaches adulthood.

Maybe if they called them "Period" dramas instead of historical it might sidestep a lot of accuracy issues.

Well, Korea's most recent episode was 54, and it doesn't look like it's going to end anytime soon, so I'm pretty sure the last episode will be 76.

You're probably talking about Mishil, she is evil and holds a highest position a non-royal family woman could ever dream of, but she is not a queen.

Right, I was indeed thinking of Mishil, but she seems to have been a royal consort, or something like that. I don't know why I wrote that she was a queen. Does anyone know the actress' name? I'm sure I've seen her elsewhere, but I just can't place her.

KO HYUN JUNG is her name . Ah yes, THAT’S her! I just couldn’t place her, but I remember now that she was in the contemporary K-dramas “HIT” and “What’s Up Fox.” This is the first time I’ve seen her in a historical drama. Thanks, domyoungchun!
