I didn't see the picture but hanks for the name, Ducky.
Lol, tink, sad to say I did comb a style near to that in my hair when I was in high school. It was the early/mid 90's, everyone had some extravagant bang or side part going on.

Women’s hairstyles certainly can lean to the extravagant. In IYSS the queens had so much braided hair on top of their heads it must have caused neck pains. But the strangest thing was the large red ball in the middle. Putting all my silly comments aside, the main point with the Iron Empress is that the hair styles on the lead characters look out of place, especially as compared to the other women in the show.

Not to be outdone by anyone else, now Lady Yunheung has an outrageous hair do. I wish I could get a picture of it, cause there's no way to describe it.

Lady Yunheung must have gone to "Braids Galore" for that hairstyle. Think of all the ornaments she could have worn in her hair. ;D We are not done with the big hair just yet. There's more to come.

I love the hair, so far the most interesting thing about this drama.
I have a book of ancient Korean prints and the few women that are depicted all have the same hair, severe and pulled back. The peasants cover it with plain head scarves and the queens and other rich ladies with elaborate headdresses.
