Kim Seok-hoon hospitalized following car accident...credit=javabeans... Over the weekend, actor Kim Seok-hoon of the current weekend sageuk series Iron Empress [천추태후, or Empress Cheon-chu] was in a car accident, and apparently the injuries are more serious than first guessed. The accident occurred late on Saturday night, when Kim had been traveling back to Seoul after filming. According to one source, at the time of the accident, Kim had no external injuries, and they were relieved that it appeared he was not severely hurt. However, as with many car accidents, pain grew steadily worse afterward, and he was hospitalized. Kim’s management explained that he cannot move his hip or neck, and therefore has to remain lying down. He cannot walk, and finds it difficult to sit upright. It’s very possible that he will not be able to return to filming soon. Kim plays a main role opposite the lead character, played by Chae Shi-ra, and his next scheduled shoot for the drama series is on April 14. If he’s unable to make the shoot this week, Iron Empress will not be able to air its upcoming episodes (to broadcast on the 18th and 19th) as scheduled. A rep from Kim’s side said, “Kim Seok-hoon keeps worrying about the drama’s filming schedule from the hospital room. He keeps repeating, ‘I’m so sorry to the staff.’” If you don't know who he is...He was in episode #1 & 2 and came back in Monday's episode #10... Check the link for pics of how bad his car was trashed...

Thanks for this, Ducky--appreciate your being so quick to post it. I had no idea that the filming schedule ran so close to the episode air dates. Someone just posted an update on the site linked above, saying that doctors have decided to do some surgery on his lower back and that shooting for the 14th (today) has been cancelled.
This certainly could throw a monkey wrench into the series, because his character (Kim Chiyang) had just returned to the storyline and looked to be a big part of the series now. I'm not sure if this will affect us here in the US because we've lagged a couple of months behind the Korean broadcasts. And especially in Chicago where we're an extra two weeks behind because of the length of "Lucifer." So we'll see.
Anyway, I certainly wish the guy a good surgery and a full recovery, which of course is the most important thing.

I do hope his injuries are not as serious as they seem .
Prayers to him for a speedy recovery. It seems that there are many accidents and deaths involving Korean actors/actresses. I hear that their filming schedules are very hectic, often lasting for many hours in all kinds of weather. And then there are the suicides. I wonder if there is any connection between these events and their perhaps exhaustion.

The suicide of the actress in "Boys Over Flowers "has become a major scandal in Korea and it seems her agent was totally evil and exploited the girl and is now under arrest ,im just saying this because it's the only suicide i can think off . This seems a problem filled drama first Chae Si Ra was injured now this but im sure KBS can figure away around it like they did with one of the leads in TGKS who dropped out over a throat infection . Im really shocked at how close the filming is to the airdate im actually surprised . In Japan with the Taiga Drama (Japans answer to the Epic Saguek ,only they have been doing the Taiga longer )They have a 5 month gap between shooting and airdate ,that way they have room to re shoot ,change directors or re vamp it if needed )

Updates from: dramaok@Soompi...
Apr 17 2009... this week 'cheonchu' will air as planned. they film some new scenes that don't show him, and added some that they already filmed w/ him in it so this week's broadcast is fine. right now for just in case the producers and writers are editing the script so kim seok-hoon can film laying down, but nothing is finalized until they get the official treatment plan. kim seok-hoon's back was previouly injored once in 2003 during the filming of movie 'tube'... so his recovery is especially complex.
according to a sports seoul article, kim seok-hoon won't be able to walk for at least 2 weeks and he needs at least a month to recover.
Apr 23 2009... kim seok-hoon's rep told newsen that the actor is trying very hard to make it to filming, however the hospital insists he must stay for treatment for at least 1 month. so this week's cheonchu is up in limbo, since his role is pretty central right now, and they don't have any new footage of him. kbs has not announced a delay or pre-emption yet.

Thanks for keeping us posted, Ducky. If he's out for a month, then it might actually cause a break in the Chicago schedule. We're well behind the Korean airing, of course, but it does take time to get the episodes subtitled for USA broadcast. Not that the injury is a good thing, but it would be great if this helped get the different USA stations on the same schedule.

They can get around it all they have to do is have kim wounded or tossed in the pokey for a wee bit .
I Noticed on subtitles KBS World has subtitled episodes that run adjacent to the Korean Broadcast . what is more confusing is the characters names change in differant areas like in EOTS where we have Yomjam /Yom moon and it seems a few characters in this one have various names in differant broadcast ares like Hwangbi and theres a few others but my mind is blank .

I'll keep Mr. Kim in my prayers. That's a terrible thing to happen to anyone... but with an accident like that, one should never underestimate the injuries. God bless the man and I wish him well.

So the guy is ignoring his doctors and forcing himself back to work. Dedication is admirable but thisis not a good idea. All he's doing is risking a much longer delay in production by not giving himself a proper chance to heal. As his character becomes more and more important in the series he's going to need to be 100% healthy. I hope he's well and has no more problems but he's taking a big, big risk.
