This thread is for our New Jersey/New York area viewers to discuss their current episode. It is not a general spoiler thread, so please post those in the other spoiler thread rather than this one.
I believe they are about ten eps ahead of Chicago, but puppy will confirm that below in this thread. Oh, and as usual, you know you OOT guys are welcome to post anywhere you want to, this is just so you don't spoil us with your current viewing.
Also, if any of you feel that someone is posting what you would consider spoilers for your area that you find out of line, please PM me or soju and we'll try to work out the situation for you. (For instance, if you all are on ep.30 and someone is posting what happens in the final episodes.)

Hey all you East Coast guys! Thanks to Bo and our Chicago buddies, we have our own TRH thread.
Last night, we saw Suin's mom go all bananas over Suin's pregnancy ("What were you thinking? "How could you do this?" blahblahblah) and maybe hinting at abortion even tho Suin's 15 weeks gone already. She's turning out to be a bit of a ditsy mom that way she indulges her younger daughter and son and keeps secrets from her husband.
The sister who borrowed money (I don't have the names down yet) is starting to grow on me. I thought she was going to be a pain at first but she's handling her husband's blunder very well.
And I DON'T LIKE the filmmaker's pushy wannabe girlfriend. ( sneaky eyes.) I think she's going to be another Subin.
So far this drama is kind of slow moving but heaps better than YAMD. Can't wait to see what replaces MDU which is coming to a close here very soon.

The best scene in all of K-Drama history last nite -- when the rat trap got stuck on the man's hair! OMG, I couldn't stop laughing....

I really like our own thread!! I was always afraid of spoliing it for Chicago since I didnt know what ep they were up to. I like this show so far. Not as love triangle drama driven like YAMD. So far, every seems cool and collected and not screeching. I like the fact the the kids live on their own and everyone goes to sleep in PJs. They dont just plop down in their clothes. My favorite so far is Jisu-the tall girl in the model agency. I liked the scenes of her drinking with her Dad and then her bro. It was touching. Is it my imagination or is some of the background music the same as YAMD???

The background music is definately familiar. I like the show so far, but it seems as though it is lacking in energy. For me, my favorite story line is the man and woman who got ripped off of the 30k.

How much is 30K in dollars? Not thirty thousand dollars surely because they borrowed fifty or eighty thousand which has to be more than they needed to buy a cab. Unless thay pay thru the nose for hack licenses like we do in NYC.

Woot, thanks for the thread!
I too really liked how Suin stood up to her mom. Gees, 15 weeks.
Ratglue dad is Chilnam, his miserable wife is yeongsun, and the daughter is Shinae, but yeah I had tears rolling down my cheeks when I was watching that. I'm glad the wife didn't go all out on him after he came home but how can Chilnam say the man is his friend when he doesn't know the man's first name or where he lives? The Subin wannabe is Chowon or Chowmon; I thought the same thing too but Hyensu doesn't seem like Hosae.

Puppy, he only gave the man $30,000 deposit. They still have $50,000 left in their possession, but now they do not have enuf for the cab (I guess because of the cost of the hack license). Yeongsun mentioned that they have $50,000 left in the last episode. I am sure a hack license is very expensive in Seoul -- not as much as in NYC where I think it's about $250,000, but still $80,000 is a nice chunk of money

Thanks door60 and brooklyn for the info. I'll never be able to callY eongsun's hubby by anything but Ratglue now!
And yes, dodgerman, I'm grateful there's been no screeching so far or no evil MIL. But I have my $$ on Suin's mom. It seems she's going to badger her daughter to get rid of the baby.
I like Jisu, too. She seems very sane. Was she adopted by the medical family but doesn't know it yet? I think the subs flashed that when I wasn't looking.
And what's going on with the doctor son? Is he a cheating cad or just overworked and insensitive? That's going to be a good story line.

Jisu's biological father was the other son of the grandfather. The 2 doctors raised their neice as if she were their daughter. It seems as though only the elders know that storyline. There was no mention as to what happened to Jisu's biological mother , though.

I just looked it up on Google. The South Korean Won (KRW) is the currency. One US Dollar = 1323 KRW. One KRW = .0000757 US Dollar. 30,000 KRW is only about $22.00 US. They must be translating into US dollars.

I used the term 30k because it is short for 30,000 The show said $30,000 I just abbreviated the term by using the "k" which stands for thousands -- it is not short for their currency

Thanks for the Jisu info, dorrie. I see another storyline like in the Chill Sisters where Seolchill discovers she was adopted and goes crazy, becomes mean where she used to be nice, breaks off with the love of her life and runs away. Then, when her real mother is found (maybe that's why the writers haven't mentioned Jisu's real mom; she could still be alive!) Seolchill refuses to see her.
I guess therre are only so many plots in the world and you have to recycle.

Jisu comes off as easy going though, I think that military training hardened seochil too much lol. Yeongsu said something about regretting being mean to Jisu's mother after the accident took place and that's why the mother moved away and didn't keep in contact with Jisu. I think that was in episode 2 or a little further along.
Suin's mom is something else. Again a mother who really cares about herself and what people will think of her if something shameful happens to the kids or husband.

You're a carefrul listener with a good memory, brooklyn. I totally missed that about Jisu's real mom.
I know this is a Road thread, but does anybody know what's coming after MDU ends, I think this weekend or soon after? I read somewhere that they expanded the # of episodes because the drama was so popular in Korea. That stuff about the youngest doctor son seemed tacked on and the drawn out romance between the young illustrator (her name just flew out of my head) and Geom from DJY is just pointless and silly. He was so excellent in that historical and so lame and annoying here. I can't figure out what she sees in him except, as her mother says, he's good looking.
