As we are all at least a few episodes into this fine drama id like to backtrack on the Real History behind the first few episodes . The Crown Prince He was actually deposed by Yuri because a smaller Kingdom sent a Golden Bow to Yuri as tribute The Crown Prince far from being the sage older brother depicted here decided to give the bow a workout in front of the envoy's and broke it ,this cost him his title . Daeso (Taeso ) Never was Goguryeo afraid of Buyeo (East Puyo actually ),As soon as Chumong popped his clog's Daeso decided it was time to conquer Goguryo only to lead his whole army into a huge ambush, Daeso pretty much lost his whole army but Yuri for some reason decided to spare him and Buyeo . When Yuri dies and Dae Musin becomes king silly Daeso decides to have another crack only this time not only does the army go belly up but he loses his head ,in some accounts Daemusin is the one to give Daeso the eternal close shave . Caves/Tomb Mural's Everytime a King Of Goguryeo died many of his retainers and family's were buried alive with him inc the artists .and the tombs were hidden . This pretty much continued until the reign of Gwangaeto who was a Buddhist .
Both Yuri and Daemusin had really bright starts to their careers but soon petered out . The first great King Of Goguryeo was Taeso who expanded the territory and put the kingdom on the map . Taeso/Taejo was the 6th King of Goguryeo and from a cadet branch of the Ko Family (Yuri ,Chumong the direct line ended with the 5th King). Buyeo /East Puyo was overrun and merged into Goguryeo by Taeso who seemed to not be wishy washy like his Royal Ancestor's .

BTW ill add more Historical trivia (NO SPOILERS )as this fine drama moves along . which leads me to the big question is this the best Goguryeo Drama ? Im going with Yes . DJY Went on way to long and seemed to revel in over the top display's of heroic's and dastardly Bad Guy's which worked actually . JUMONG ,it had some fine stand alone episode's but never seemed to click as a series . YEON GAESOMUN never saw this ,although Arirang plans to re -air it next year in the Mon -Fri morning drama slot . PRINCESS JANG YUN MO well this has not even started yet . LEGEND /4 GODS FIRST KING this is very similar to KOTW but it has a silly wizard in a red cape and the 4 LOTR type god's ,if MBC had played it straight this would have been the best or at least a tie with KOTW .

I found the over-the-top stuff in DJY to be a huge turn-off . . . but I realize that I’m in the minority on this.
I pretty much agree: some good acting, some great characters, and a few satisfying episodes . . . but the series as a whole completely flamed out towards the end.
First half of YGSM was okay. A few good episodes, but the storyline was almost entirely fictional, and the special effects (naval battles) were awfully cheesy. I thought he second half of YGSM was quite good, though. Thus, YGSM probably ranks as my favorite Goguryeo Drama. Watch it if you get the chance.
This one wasn’t English subbed on my satellite broadcast, so I only half-heartedly watched. Special effects were extravagant to the point of ridiculousness - it was like watching a computer game. Some great action scenes, though. I agree that if MBC “had played it straight,” it might have been a terrific show, but without subs, it’s hard for me to give it a fair evaluation.
As for “Kingdom of the Wind,” I like it, but it seems too much like a “Jumong 2” sometimes. Taken in the right spirit, though, it’s still worth watching.
