Hi, guys. I'm kind of late with this, I hope you will forgive me. (It was my birthday this weekend, I was a little distracted.) I was assigned the task of posting this message and then I was off work on Friday and had to take my mother around Chicago and I just messed up...
Many of you have probably seen the messages on the main board about our changing the rules on picture sizing. I know some of you might think this is directly aimed at you, but it is not. Anyone who has visited the historical forums has seen that we frequently have members who post very large photos--I guess historical series are epic in every sense! But our little board is increasingly being overwhelmed by these threads, so we think we've come up with a way to keep posting photos but still keep the people with slower loading times happy. Here are the new rules, and then I have something to say at the bottom of this message:
message about new rules
tutorial on thumbnails
The mods have spent a lot of time discussing this stuff, so I hope these rules will work for everyone's enjoyment.
Now, I'm going to add a few things. First of all, please be careful about "tiling" photos next to each other--even if they meet the size constraints individually, they'll overflow the page if they add up to more than 400x400. Second, since Nene's kitties is so humongous, I'm going to lock that thread and start a new one for Nene. (Although she can obviously start her own new thread, I want to make it clear that she's welcome--nay, encouraged and desired--to do so.) I'm not taking away the old thread, it'll be there for reference, but you will have to post in the new one, following the new rules.
Third, Nene, I was going to ask you to go in and edit your photos in the "Painter of Wind" thread either to thumbnails or to resize them--but I just realized! You can't--you're not a member so the board can't recognize you as being authorized to edit your own thread. So, I'm going to start another "Painter of Wind" thread, and I'll lock the original and post a link to it from the new one with a "large pic" warning.
Nobody needs to edit their old posts in either thread (or anywhere). Please just start using the new rules from now on.
If you have questions, please ask them. I see that Nene is loading most of her pics from ImageShack already, so it looks like she'll only have to add a few steps to her efforts.
Yours,
Bo
PS - I tested all my links repeatedly, but if I messed up any of them in any of the posts regarding this matter, please let me know here in this thread.
