This made its debut last night in Korea from what i have heard it sounds pretty good bearing in mind the creative powers behind Emperor and Conspiracy /Court . The review i read gave it 7/10 which considering the author did not think much of DJY or GKS but did like Emperor so that means we will like it a whole lot better than he did . KBS stress more emphasis on historical accuracy this time around (thats more accurate than Jumong and recent productions . As far as the plot its meant to start with King Yuri and the War with East Puyo so yes its an unofficial sequel to Jumong though that may change . I have seen a video clip of a battle in the desert between Koguryo warriors and what looks like Mongol tribesmen and its hard to judge on a mere few minutes but it reminded me of the similar battle in Emperor . The running time for the first episode is 70 min's So this is just a heads up for what looks to be a good series ,the Twitch film site which did the review also claimed it seemed to have more serious acting with an emphasis on pathos and assorted tragic events . Also is the claim it has little to do with the Manga about Prince Hodong . KBS so far has 36 episodes slated but will probably extend this one as its already been sold to a bunch of overseas markets .

I watched the first episode ... it was really good. It's going be a great series. Hopefully they'll air it in Chicago for people there. Definitely more serious than Jumong and not as melodramatic as DJY.

I really hope they air this here in Chicago. I just saw 10 minutes of it on mysoju.com and I really liked it. I know 10 minutes its not a long time, but it opened with a battle scene and I love those type of dramas. Oh and I think one of the main characters is also one of the main characters from Emperor of the Sea (Yeom jang, I think I'm spelling his name wrong tho)

You are correct. Song Gook Il played Yeom Jang in Emperor of the Sea and he played Jumong in the MBC series of the same name. In KOTW he plays Jumong's grandson.

By all accounts this is KBS'S biggest hit for a long time (save for DJY KBS has struggled with both historical and modern dramas for awhile but this one seems to be the one to turn things around . Im betting most of the networks will move from Joseon Dynasty drama's (a staple for years but seem to have run their course )to Koryo ,3 Kingdoms era dramas instead . You Tube has a bunch of clips and video's from this also and it looks great .

I've been following this drama and it's been pretty good so far. It hasn't aired in my area yet, so I've been doing searches and watching it on-line.
When I watched Dae Ju Young, I left the drama alone from somewhere in the middle until almost the last couple of months of it's airing. I think I had gotten a bit tired of watching the battles going back and forth, along with hearing, "Blasted B_ _ _ _ _ D" each week.
I watched and enjoyed Jumong, so I'm not having a problem following the history and the storyline.
The new drama recommendations have been great on this board. Thanks for taking the time to share the info and your views.

I've watched the first 2 episodes and like it so far. The genre is period drama and fantasy with 36 episodes.

Despite glowing reviews and positive word of mouth the most recent episode being #4 only got 9%rating (means disaster)and thats for all of South Korea ,that does not bode well for historical dramas considering all the money that was pumped into this not to mention the chances of seeing it on the local Korean PBS Stations .

I've watched four episodes of KOTW on mysoju (my area STILL hasn't replaced AZN with ANYTHING). The series is seriously lacking in music to move things along and help build emotions. That is not going to keep me from watching it, however.

at the beginning i though it will be a great epic drama, but then watching episodes 9-11 is very disappointing...i just hope the rest of the espisodes will be worth it to watch, as it is still early to conclude that this will be bad or good...
