My self i started reading spoilers when the DMC League storyline started to get a wee bit drawn out and for my peace of mind i needed to know how many episodes it was going to last (30).
The other aspects ,its hard to watch a 136 episode drama without some natural mishap ,being changing days ,air times ,power outages from the weather (my power went down an hour before 114 but i was able to grab a vhs tape hop on a bus to the other side of the city and have a friend tape it for me ).
being the historical drama junkie i truly am i have watched the Japanese Taiga drama's every year for about 10 years only missing about 4 episodes due to (a)Rolling Blackouts ,(b)unannounced scheduling changes .(c)failing recording equipment
Also would you not hate yourself if you missed a major battle ,plot change ,death of a major character ,
So yes spoilers are for me essential ...and a big thank you to those who have posted them .

I positively must read the spoilers just for my own sanity. I want to have an idea of what is going to happen and prepare myself for it. (There are no spoilers in real life. We just have to take things as they come.) Sometimes if I watch a series on a DVD, I will sneak a peek at the last few minutes of the last episode.

As you said, there are no spoilers in real life - I very seldom read spoilers - because I really like the suspense of waiting to see what happens and the way the characters act etc. As a matter of fact, after reading a few spoilers, I have often wondered what episodes the posting was about since the episode I viewed was very different from what was told in the posted spoiler. I'd much rather make up my own mind as to who said what to whom and why --- but sometimes, I admit, a spoiler will help, i.e. when going on vacation etc. then I will read them just to keep up with the storyline and hopefully, the posted spoiler will be one of the more accurate ones. ;D

This is a great thread! I've often wondered why spoilers annoy some while others can take or leave them. Unlike you, domyoungchun, the dragging episodes are a pain but they're not what make read ahead. Sometimes I get so wrapped up in a character, I want to find out if he/she gets punished or rewarded and then when I do find out, I'm happy to see it unfold. Right now, I check the DJY spoiler regularly because I'm vexed that the heroes are getting beaten down over and over and I want to read about some of their triumphs. I love a short horror story called The Monkey's Paw. I know the ending but, after a couple of years go by, I forget parts of how the end comes about, so I re-read it just to scare myself again.

I read the spoilers because I also like to have a feel for what's going to happen. Just like I like to read the reviews for a movie that I want to see. I don't have a problem knowing ahead of time because I still enjoy the acting and the characters. Call me crazy but tonight in NJ we watched eps#77 on WMBC and tomorrow on AZN I will be watching eps#124. I have no problem keeping track of where I'm at in different showings.

i try to avoid them, so i can be surprised. It takes some of the excitement when i find out something did or did not happen. Now, as moderator for this group,i SHOULD be reading the messages ...so i ask y'all to let me know if you see something a foul in in a spoiler thread.

If people want to post and/or read spoilers in a spoiler thread, that's fine. But we've had a real problem during DJY with people posting spoilers in other places and blowing significant developments for the rest of us who DON'T want to read spoilers. I've lost count but it's probably happened a dozen times or so. I don't know if this has been a problem with other shows covered in this forum (can anybody comment on that--yes or no?) but I think it's something that needs to be addressed going forward.

I must stand with soapygrams on this. For me, all spoilers do is... well, spoil! When I find something out before it happens in the series I feel rather cheated, because it takes all the enjoyment out of watching the plot unfold.

I read spoilers only accidentally, when people post them in threads other than the spoiler thread. I don't like to know what's coming. I enjoy watching things as they happen.

I normally don't make it a habit of reading spoilers, but I've been reading quite a few for DJY. I got so far behind in episodes it was much easier to fast forward though after knowing a summary of the episode. It also helped me determine which episodes were necessary and which weren't. I also read spoilers when I feel a show is too long. I'm sure you all know what I'm talking about.

Absolutely! It made me avoid the board.

I'm right there with ajk and BungalowDweller… this board became a train wreck that catered to the out of towners over its own members. It made me stay away too and miss a lot of insight I might otherwise have seen from the regulars who dropped out one by one.
To answer your question… I read them only after the show ends. Which means I can now read all of them for DJY. It's a nice way to recap a lot of what went on throughout the whole show and remember some of the more interesting characters from the beginning.

Out-of-towners are members too, Zorro. (I'd put a smiley face here but don't know how to do it yet.) I certainly was made to feel welcome when I joined. When I was very new, I made the mistake of posting unwisely about another drama. I was very gently chastized and have not done it again because I do understand how annoying it can be.
The guidelines are very helpful and the moderators are vigilant, but I think some people post spoilers inadvertently and others are just lax. We all care, however, those of us who value this forum and most of us learn our lessons eventually.

If it's really bad, then it is due to our lack of virtue, and you should take my life (did i get all the phrases from the series? ;D ) A little more seriously, sorry to sound defensive (since i ama moderator, who supposed o take care of these things ), but i wouldn't call this board a train wreck... We've had a lot of new people, and those who are "learning the system" i've been connecting with people over historical dramas through the internet for nearly a decade, but some are just getting started. so i try to cut a little slack. i remember the years of not being connected like this, and mistakes i learned on the way (and still learning), so i try to take it in stride. For futre boards, you might want to keep track of who's been messing up (i'll try my best as a moderator as well). If it's the same person, we can address them more severely, but for 1st timers, we can PM the person, and resolve it and keep everyone's dignity & respect in tact. You can always e-mail us at clubstaff (at) gmail.com for a quicker resolution. Hope we'll see you for the next drama!
