i guess they saved the best for last.
for the past 3 or so weekends, i have done more crying than in the rest of the show altogether.
first there was sudol's death....it was like losing a friend. the flashbacks were powerful and emotional. and then guemlan (i know i butchered the spelling on that). dae jungsang's last moments and death just tore me to pieces.
i almost danced an irish jig (yes, i am) when "sir" shin got his, however.
the producers got smart and kept my beloved archfiend around for the entire series. lee duk hwa is quite the actor, and still my favorite, even on the side of the enemy.
as for our hero, DJY....i have become so fond of him. i had a hard time warming up to him, he seemed at times stiff and lacking emotions (not sure if this was the actor or the portrayal the powers-that-be wanted). his reactions to the deaths of his closest ones, and to finding out about geom have been so vivid and gut-wrenching....so human.
well, there you have just a few of my thoughts. it is a shame those of us in the NY/NJ area couldn't get this thread going, to have that discussion and camaraderie that we had for AOW and YSS. ah well....

Hello, luvarchfiend - - I agree - - this segment of the show was heartbreaking! Some of the deaths seemed unnecessary, but I guess it was done to show people the sacrifices that were made to establish Balhae. I remember hoping Shin Hong would meet a horrible death. He seemed to get off easy, considering all the evil things he did. But I guess his torment was in knowing he had betrayed the master he served all his life, even if it was an accidental betrayal.
Did you see Lee Dukwha in his new show? He plays a much less showy role as the President in a show called Formidable Rivals (AKA Powerful Opponents).

Shin Hong's is like the best enemy death so far! Yes, pip, I love how he died with that guilt, he got tricked and totally fell for it. That was too awesome. It's weird but in the past 3 episodes, Shin's looks kinda grew on me, he started looking cute o.o lol Anyway, I'm all psyched up for the final fight between JoYoung and Kaigu. I'm gonna cry like a baby when Kaigu dies. I'm one of the few that actually like Kaigu from the very start till the end lol.

My main man, My favorite. The one who made all the action happen. Sir Shin is gone. I weep.
He took an orphan boy and made him leader of a nation. When others were lost he had all the ideas. He was loyal to the end. No way he would fall for that cheap trick.

Wow, disappointed... how long did the fight last anyway? I expected a massive showdown instead of a few slices... ah oh well.
Warrior, he was beaten down and tired and so very vulnerable; I guess he wasn't thinking straight nor was he alert or careful of his actions because he was so desperate to save Kaigu.

Shin Hong was ancient, by this time, too, so was vulnerable in a way he was not before. And, IMO, because he often led with his heart when it came to Li Kaigu, he made a mistake.

Brooklyn and pip, I'm glad that someone besides me appreciates Shin Hong.
I didn't follow the whole series but I enjoyed when I did. They did a great job. I'm even enjoying these post-victory episodes.

So it's finally over. I picked it up on episode 15, but it was an awesome ride never the less. I'm gonna miss watching it (half of which because now I have nothing to look forward to on the weekends anymore). I certainly hope a box DVD version with subtitles pops up in the future because this series was too good to just watch and rely on memories about for the rest of my life.

I told myself I wasn't gonna cry, but that moment between Geom and Joyoung started it off. Then the flashbacks when Joyoung and crew were before the stone pillar and seeing Manchun tore me up.
Anyone know the actor's name who plays Geom's sidekick, please?

dethscithe, you can buy a full set of DVDs with the KBS America subtitles from their e-store: www.kbs-america.com/product/eor_list.phpThey recently added the complete DJY set to their store. $459 for all 134 episodes. Maybe an edited-down set will be available sometime like there was for IYSS, but at least you can get the full set if nothing else (provided you want to cough up that much cash).
