Dongji seems to be enjoying her life as a rich man's wife in spite of MIL. I suppose if you put everything she's gained (money, love of a good man, a home and job for her son, a place for Chan and Dalhyeon) against MIL's nasty mouth, it's not such a bad trade off.
Maybe she's smarter than I think.

You bet... but as someone observed, it take a great deal more strength to keep you mouth shut. She is strong, loving and really quite focused. She has raised a very good son... whereas Sua had everything money could buy... but no discipline, no manners, and her maturity level was locked in as a 2 year old.

;D Kathleen, I was trying to remember just where I had seen Sua's type of behaviour. Now I know - it was my children and grandchildren when they were TODDLERS! It was so long ago and they don't act like that now - I just forgot. The Terrible Twos have lasted ALL of Sua's life so far -- Reality will be a true shock for her at some point in her life! We've seen a few glimpses of that when she gets a shock about her "loving husband". More to come. I sure wish she had inherited more of Mansu's traits than her halmani's. But look who raised her "like a jewel" - LOL

Yeah, me too, I couldn't understand what was going on. Then I remembered the phone call she got before the channel went off the air. Oh, boy, it's nice to see her being considerate for a change. But I guess Dongji shouldn't get used to it, because it probably won't last.

What exactly is in these tonics? In Daughters In Law, all the men got sick when they drank the same type of tonic made for the women. And why aren't Dongji and Mansu smart enough to see through Granny's pretense? Wouldn't it be obvious what these tonics are intended for? Or are there no labels with ingredients and/or directions, just Granny's instructions to "take it with care"?

I was shocked at first too. She must be jealous of her friend having a grandchild. Before, any act of affection between Dongji and Mansu, MIL acted grossed out as if they were doing something scandalous. The tonics contain a certain mixture of herbals and vitamins that would be tailored to the person's needs or condition. How naive (trying to be nice here) could Dongji and Mansu be even if they didn't know what the tonics were for. MIL does a complete about face and they don't wonder what's up?

Taking "tonics" is an age-old remedy for EVERYTHING -Sometimes, the ingredients in it are, as noted above, tailored to fit the person taking the tonic. Why the men got sick from taking "women's tonic" in DIL,?? Dont know the answer to that one. But ingesting tonics to aid in fertility is a very common Asian herbal medicine practice. Western medicine has begun to recognize that some of the herbal remedies have real medical benefits. However, just taking tonic for your health is also very common. Mansu even states that they should get MIL her tonic soon. So the tonic is not just related to helping conceive a child. Mansu and Dongji would not automatically assume that is the reason MIL bought them the tonic - HOWEVER, her behavior and attitude toward them SHOULD tip them off - LOL - She's suddenly happy to see them acting lovingly toward each other?? What a hypocrite!

I so dislike that hypocrite aspect of MIL's behavior, Soapy (along with all the other nasty bits). She talks honey to Jongsun, then hangs up the phone and snarls over something Jongsun said.
Come to think of it, that's why I can't truly hate Sua. Somebody mentioned in another post that Sua lied when she was stealing Seonjae from Jiyeong. But for the most part, she says what she feels and doesn't care who's listening. I admire that kind of honesty even tho some of what she does is cruel and childish.
A lot of the other characters hide behind simpering smiles, even the "good" ones. Maybe it's cultural, an Eastern thing. "Never give offese. Smite the enemy but with dignity." (from DJY, I think.) And maybe the Western way of hanging it all out there is wrong.

Well Sua wasn't very happy about the tonics. She likes when MIL is mean to Dongji. Mrs. Na was surprised too and when she asked Dongji why MIL was acting different, she was clueless. Who wouldn't be shocked. MIL telling Dongji to go and rest etc..

When MIL and Sua sneer at Dongji or Baekho, I wish for some kind of comeuppance for them. They should have to wear orange jumpsuits and pick up trash from the streets. Or something else they would hate. Sheesh, these writers know how to get me involved!

Don't they though, Ginny? You sort of think you know what's coming, who's going to end up with who (whom?), and then, Bang! Another twist.
I can't understand why everybody isn't a fan.
