I'm afraid that the next 5 hours of DJY will bring us all to tears. I know it's just a story, but the acting is so good you just feel like you know these warriors. Tonite was heart wrenching ... and unfortunately there's more to come.

Yes tonight's episode was a real tear-jerker! Somewhere else on this board there is a discussion about the REAL people and the FICTIONAL people. Granted, this is a historical show; but it's also fiction. That in mind, the acting is SO GREAT that these "fictional" characters become so real that we cry when they hurt, laugh when they do and smile when they are happy, which unfortunately has not happened nearly enough. The point is - we must be enjoying this show and the acting is what keeps us watching. The characters may be fictitious but my tears are REAL! Li Kaigu - Li Wen - YOU BLASTED BASTARDS!

This was sad....but i wonder how necessary -- Heuk Sudol is fictional, so he didn't "need" to die, according to history. It would have been nice if he could've at leats taken out SOMEONE. One of Li Wen's assistants should have stepped up (and Heuk Sudol taking him out before collapsing). How many episodes are left? There's definitely a few deaths that shoul be coming before the series end (i'm guessing at least 5 or 6). i wish they would've spaced it out. And no heirs for Heuk Sudol?

Episode #125 is a perfect example of why this series drives me nuts. There certainly was a lot of great stuff in it; some terrific acting and some terrific scenes. I loved the purity of Heuk Sedol’s resolve; even as he faced death he thought only of the greater cause succeeding. (I agree, it’s a shame he died, although some of that is necessary if a series is going to convey the tragedy of wartime.) And I have to say, the scene with Auhong was a real high point in the whole series for me. Packed one heck of a wallop, especially right after DJY struggling so violently with saving his brother vs. completing the journey. She spoke so plainly, and for her to put the people ahead of her own possible tragedy, it was something special.
But some of the episode was completely spoiled for me because of the combat scene. The whole Goguryean army unit is standing there watching Heuk Sedol throttling Li Wen, and Zhao Renshi comes galloping out of the Tang line to stab him in the back (literally), and NOBODY DOES ANYTHING?!? Nobody steps forward to challenge Zhao, and nobody even yells out to him “Sedol—Look out!”? It was ridiculous and infuriating. Wouldn’t any soldier yell out to his commander if he were in danger? The very idea that every single Goguryean soldier would just stand there like a robot while an enemy galloped a good fifty yards and cheap-shotted their general, it was just a stupid, stupid piece of writing and it cheapened Sedol’s death. There have been too many of those moments in the series, with some absurd, ridiculous thing happening that could have been made much better with some more effort by the writers.
But anyway, Sedol sure did grow to become a great character as the series went on, and I’ll miss him.

Also Li Wen's guys just watching him get strangled for a long time?? I expected an arrow to hit Heuk Sudol in the back.
I thought Auhong looked different. Heuk Sudol said she should eat the jerky because starving is making her bloated. I didn't think she looked bloated then. But last night I thought she looked pregnant. Even her face looked fuller. Maybe the actress is really pregnant? But it would be better for the story if they said there will be Heuk Sudol's baby coming.

You took the words right off my keyboard!! To top it off, he survives the sword sticking out of his back, only to die from a single swipe of another to his chest at the execution? In reality almost all these characters should have been long dead from any of their assorted battle wounds. The idea that they survive and heal overnight is some testimony to the power of riceballs, as well as perpetuates the idea that they're somehow invincible or at least superhuman. As long as I see it as the comic book it's become, I don't get nearly as annoyed as I used to. As a warrior Sudol was sublime. But since no one "had his back," he *should* have heard that horse and Zhao's war cry coming from behind him himself, damn it! The writing has been atrocious for some time now. I predict more grandstanding… maybe one character per the remaining shows left?

i totally agree with you zorro. i don't understand why they take the time to develop these characters only to do such unrealistic action with them. it would have been better to stop the drama at 100 episodes. i read that they may do the same thing with yi san, because the dramas over in korean are having a heyday they want to extend it to 80 episodes. i just hope it will not mess the story up.

I had terrible nightmares after watching this episode; it is too sad, and I could not keep the tears back. It was so difficult to watch; I've grown to love Heuk Sudol quite a bit-- he was such a wonderful, lovable, character who rose from being nothing to being one of the best warriors. There were a lot of nerve-wracking scenes. The scene in which Sudol was battling Li Wen was impressive-- how Sudol just tossed him over his shoulder like he was nothing!... that sure surprised Li Wen quite a bit (if only Xue Rengui could have seen that, eh?). When he was choking LW, my entire family was practically screaming for him to look out! I was ready to have that Tang general horse-whipped and broiled (I had been led to believe that in one-on-one challenges like that, the men on both sides of the field are honor-bound not to interfere until one or the other warrior is victor). Sudol's death scene was very sad-- his flash-backs of when DJY, Gulsubiwu and he first became sworn brothers... how he apologized to his wife for not returning... and how he whispered "Mother!" right before he fell to the ground... too terrible! I simply cannot imagine DJY and 'biwu without Sudol and his cheerful smile.

How many episodes are left? There's definitely a few deaths that shoul be coming before the series end (i'm guessing at least 5 or 6). i wish they would've spaced it out. There are going to be 128 episodes total (so I've heard). We just saw #125, so we've only 3 left.

Maybe you guys should be writing the series!
An arrow would have been an excellent idea, ginnycat; that's what I thought of too. It would have made perfect sense for Zhao to impulsively grab a bow and hit Sedol with an arrow. That way, not only would there have been no time for anybody on the Goguryean side to react, but it would have avoided the absurdity of Sedol taking that huge sword in his back and apparently having almost no problem with it. (I didn't even mention that part because like zorro said, this has become par for the course in this series.) Nalbal, I was yelling out loud at that point too; how could the soldiers not be yelling? Sheesh.
And jinju0, you're absolutely right, the series should have been left at 100 episodes. I've been griping about that for a long time now myself.
By the way, the final episode count is 136. So we have ten more to go after Tuesday's #126.

The good news from here in Korea is that the final episode count wound up being 134, not 136. You guys have got only 8 episodes left.
