What? LOL ;D Do you think PAY-AH would even understand the concept of shame relative to herself! I think all extremely rich people have a very different view of life than most of the rest of us! They take everything for granted as though it's their right to have everything their way. Jongun/Chicken Greedy is an example of materialism and MIL is the personification of it! No wonder the Bible says it's easier for a camel to get through the eye of a needle than a rich man!

Ok here it is:
It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God." (Matthew 19:24)

;D Mea culpa for not typing the ENTIRE quote - thanks for completing it -- My quote left you wondering just how big is that needle - or how small is that camel ..

It exists in the UK and even here. The old money, the new money and the no money! But here, it seems more of a racial bias than $$$ bias. I know it! Like the Portuguese are forced to declare themselves as Hispanic in the US. I never knew what Hispanic was before! Its people from Latin America who are a mixture of the Spanish and native indians? And Hispanics are not so well received. So not being the right ethic background can also make you realise there is a class system!

The class or caste system exists all over the world. It's not just racial either. It exists in India - they are ail Indian but some are darker skinned than others and some are born into the "Untouchables", so they are ostracized by the rest of the population. There is nothing derogatory in the term Hispanic. It means "mestizo" - mixed blood; that of the original native people with the invaders, usually Spaniards. Well, that's what I was taught in school. But back then people from Ecuador, Venezuela etc were called by their country name and not by a generic term. I don't know if that was a bad thing or not??? It was merely geographic terminology to define where in the world a person was from. Sometimes, the PC Police make more problems than they solve. We're all people - we all have red blood - even the "blue bloods" - LOL

That's so funny! Sheila, you should ask them to show you where Portugal is on a map of Latin America! And when they can't, you should point out where Portugal is on a map of Europe. lol. Arrogant, ignorant people with a little bit of power are dangerous!

Soapy and sheila, Hispanic just means Latin American. It's a sloppy and unfair shorthand, but it doesn't have anything to do with being of mixed Spanish/native ancestry. That's what the term "mestizo" is for.

Well it doesn't make any sense then since "Latin America" DOES NOT include Portugal or Spain. Both of those countries should be listed with the rest of Europe = not South or Central AMERICA. Gee, they need to get a world atlas to find out where these countries are located. The only thing that Spain and "Latin American" countries have in common is language - they all speak a FORM of Spanish. Portuguese is DIFFERENT than Spanish; similar as is Dutch to German, but not the same language. That is what I was taught in school many, many years ago. And also what I learned at U of Chicago when I took some anthropology courses given by Dr. Sol Tax. Of course, that too was many years ago. When you get old, like me, MOST things have occurred many years ago LOL

;D Prof Tax was a great human being a very warm person. He would visit the American Indian Center frequently when it was located on LaSalle Street. Bob Reitz was the director back then and he and Prof were friends. Wow - what a walk down memory lane! ;D Alas, both Bob and Prof Tax are now deceased; but they left a wealth of good feelings and memories for those of us who knew them!
