Well, I'm willing to suspend disbelief for the sake of the story, to a degree, but, can I ask, out of curiosity, are there really any old noble families which are in possession of the same manors that they had before the Japanese occupation, and which held on through the war of 1951-53 and all the modernization since then and are still there? I wouldn't have thought so.

Maybe they were "restored" by the Government, as "Cultural Caretakers"? Just a guess.
