I watched Episode 10 yesterday. I felt so bad for the lead girl whose husband is cheatin'. Have they said how long they've been married?
I forgot to tape the re-airing of Episode 11. Can anyone give me a quick re-cap? How did the mom react when the DIL told her that her son had another woman?

Hi, GC. I don't know how long they've been married, but it seems like maybe just a year or two. You haven't seen the early episodes, right? She really was a little sweetheart, always smiling, despite the hideously crummy treatment her MIL gave her. She went over to their house and made nice when the mother obviously just wanted her son (and he was too busy to go himself). Nothing was too hard for little wifey to bear, because she adored her husband. And he really seemed to adore her! They had their cute little private jokes and all. Which is why it is so hard to understand how he could be so weak and stupid to have an affair like that. And that's why I'm so glad to see her be so unrelenting toward him. Granted, it was her mistake to be so naive and let one person become her whole world, but he should have known what this would do to her. She threw a really great fit, complete with breaking glass, and she kept saying she would never forgive him, and that he's not the same to her anymore, that he's a "fake Junho" now.
Basically, the episode was about everyone finding out. The MIL, as you probably saw in the preview, is mad that the DIL would talk about divorce "so easily," and she's also mad at the son for being so stupid. But she feels that if Jiyeon wants a divorce, then fine, let her have one, though she's not getting any alimony (because Junho doesn't have any money). Junho kept getting drunk and coming back to the apartment. She packed his suitcase but he wouldn't take it, so she left for a day or so. Finally he came back and said if she wanted him to move out, he would. He still thought she was going to go to America with him, but she's not. In fact, the episode ended with her giving him the divorce papers.
Meanwhile, she has run into the detective again. Don't know if this was in Friday's or Saturday's episode, but he retrieved King Sejong from the children's center and is going to raise him himself. That girl is going to insinuate herself back into his life, as she still lives and works in the neighborhood and they have run into each other. I can't remember much more, though. Can anyone help fill in?

I kept waiting to see when Chill Sisters was ending and that seemed to go on forever! Anyway, I guess maybe that's why the divorce index is so high in S. Korea (I remember reading it's like one of the top 3 or top 5 in the world!). Sons want to act like their fathers but the wives aren't going to turn the other way like they might have seen their mom do. (don't know if that made sense) Yes, I am also glad she was as relentless as she was. I remember the main character from My Rosy Life and how that poor woman groveled and begged that scumbag husband of hers to stay with her. I saw the part you are talking about, the one where the detective took back the little boy. Why is he King Sejong? Who is the lady who had a miscarriage? Is she the boy's mom?

I'm calling him King Sejong because his name really is Sejong, which was also the name of the good king who invented the Hangeul writing system. One interesting thing about the kid's dead father--it happened in the first episode during a cops-and-criminals chase through a street market. When the detective's friend (also a detective) cornered one of the perps, the criminal stabbed him fatally. But before that happened, the detective ran into our Jiyeon and, after knocking her purse and falling down, he accidentally grabbed her wallet in the confusion. She thought he was a purse-snatcher, and this became the occasion for their original meeting, when she went to the police station to pick up her wallet. He was very hostile to her at first, because she accused him loudly of being a criminal just as he was finding out that his friend died, and they've run into each other in the neighborhood a few times because they live close to each other. He's finally starting to act like a human being to her now.

The divorce rate in S Korea is higher than in Europe but not in USA. The koreans say that 1) a lot of couples cohabitate in Europe and USA so they don't divorce but go their separate ways so you cannot compare their divorce rates and 2) its because of negative american influence making Korean more "modernised, westernised" that corrupts their cultures and values. haha, interesting right?!
