Like a lot of you, “High as the Sky” hasn’t exactly fulfilled my expectations, either. While I like some of the individual characters, the show's overall storylines all seem to have all fallen flat. I’ve always loved actress Yoon Hae-yeong, who plays Myeong-ju (aka “aunt”) and I like her character here. She’s a level-headed businesswoman when she’s on-duty, but after hours she’s kind of goofy and girlish. A fun character, and it’s unfortunate that the “student who wants to marry her teacher” storyline seems to have so little substance. It’s coming off, to me, as just a bunch of lightweight fluff. Elder Grandmother is another interesting character whom I find appealing. It’s hard to imagine that she’s the same actress we all hated as “Mean Grandmother” in “One Million Roses.” The storyline that centers on her is interesting, but I’m not sure it’s enough to pull the series along by itself. What’s the deal with daughter Myeong-ja, who is diagnosed with a brain tumor, enters the hospital, gets surgery, and then goes home just fine? What’s the point of that (seemingly) huge event? It’s hard for me not to come away thinking that it was some over-dramatic filler the writers added just to take up space. I initially saw no redeeming qualities in snooty, selfish Eun-ju, but the divorce from Sang-hyeon seems to have matured her a bit. Will they get back together again? This plotline still has some potential. Worst characters of all are (curiously) the show’s lead characters. Moody Mu-yeong garners no sympathy from me, and if I hear his love-mate Eun-ha whine one more time, I risk losing it and destroying my TV set. These are most unsympathetic pair of lead characters I’ve seen in a long while. I love Ji-su, though; she’s smart, level headed (sometimes more so than her boss, Myeong-ju) and REALLY pretty. Best looking babe on the show, but I still haven’t figured out what she sees in that loser Mu-yeong. Can’t she do better? Ji-su has everything I'd want in a lead character, and I completely agree with Soju that she ought to be playing a much bigger role in this drama series. So, on a scale of 1-5, “High as the Sky” rates about a 2 from mikey. Not terrible, but somewhat below-average.

I really like this show, except it is somewhat predictable, and I feel like I know how it's going to end already. You know the foster brother (Muyeoung I think is his name) is going to end up being a successful restauranteur, and finally be able to marry Jisu. You also know that the couple that divorced are going to get back together again. And that Jisu's father and stepmother will have a baby. Then the show will end, and I'll have to get used to another drama. I've got to say, that the one thing about these Korean dramas that I do not like, is that they end!! I could have watched The Chill Sisters forever. I wish they would go on for years like the American Soap Operas. The drama that replaced the Chill Sisters in the NY area is some kind of fighting show, and I can't even watch it.

Wish some American soaps would take a cue from the Kdramas and END THEM ALREADY! I'm with you on this one LOL. I also wish the American s/o would take clue from the K-dramas and issue a time skip alert - it's so goofy the way they do it - one scene has a baby and next time that baby is graduating from either grade school, high school or college ... hee hee - what the heck happened between the Am soaps truly strain the credulity of the audience to breaking - I cannot abide their bedroom bingo and the who's your daddy story lines. We already have the Maury show and Jerry Springer doing that - I LOVE the K-dramas because they are moral and have a beginning, middle and end. Just like LIFE! Yes, sometimes we miss the characters from a favorite show but then a new one starts and shortly you get involved with the new characters and plot line. Yeah Yeah for the K-dramas.

Yup, that's the thing about K-dramas: while I'm sad to see the good ones end, I'm often GLAD when the lousy ones finally go bye-bye. ;D
Still, I've often noticed that some really "good" K-dramas sometimes get stretched out a bit (in order to extend the run of a popular series) but they usually end up suffering as a result. Keeping a storyline tight and fast-moving, I think, makes for a reallly good K-drama series - even if we end up dearly missing it when it's all over.

i'ev sorta been wathing this one. it hasn't really caught my interest enough to watch it daily. i'll probably get back into when it's nearing the end. it kinda bugs me that my local kbs edits out quite a bit of each episode so you miss parts of the plot.

Jiung's wife is the one who wear the pants. Only when she gives her stamp of approval, then he will change!

Mikey -
I agree; I have mixed feelings when they extend a good drama. I was totally nuts about 'Bizarre Bunch', and was glad when I heard it would been extended. I found the ending to be rather disjointed, with a "tacked-on" feeling.
There is something about the Daily Dramas, though, that compels me to watch them, no matter how awful they are. The twice-weekly ones I can easily drop if they're not to my liking, and shows that air every day but are not "Daily Dramas", such as 'Can Love Be Refilled?' I can ignore when they go south. With the Daily Dramas, though, I won't miss even one ep of a complete dog like 'My Precious Child/My Lovely Family'.

I completely agree with you Soju. With the daily dramas, I usually know what story line is going to come up or how it's going to end, yet I find myself watching it everyday, even setting up my recording time half an hour before the initial "air time" just so that I don't miss a minute of it.
What is it with these daily dramas that keeps us coming back for more?

What is it with these daily dramas that keeps us coming back for more? . . . habit ... sometimes a bad habit Oh Kathleen, it's one most of us have! But we have a lot of company. In fact, so much so that we have our own support group - LOL - right here on this board! I try to schedule things outside the house around the schedule of the DD; which, I admit given the unreliability of the "scheduling" of WOCH, can be quite a challenge. But hey, it's free and it's a small price to pay for the total enjoyment, isn't it? ;D

Yes Soapygrams, you're right. There are truly worse habits that could occupy our time between , say 5:38 and 6:43pm. There are a lot of spinning wheels in this drama. Been there done that at least 50 times. Whining and handriging. That brother and sister in law need to be kicked out of the house by dad. Sister-in-law is unattractive to begin with and her behavior makes her even more homely. There... I feel better. Thank you for inpiring me to share my thoughts.

I agree with you about Moo Young and Eun Ha. To be honest though, I don't care much for Ji Soo either. I think all 3 of them annoying.
