I'm pretty surprised at the reaction to the last episode - it begs the question: what makes for a good ending to a Korean drama? In my opinion, Dalja's Spring had an embarrassingly bad ending after a decent build-up. Unlike The Chill Sisters, which had some believable character development, Dalja didn't blossom as much as she continued to be emotionally immature and slow on the uptake. Chae Rim/Lim was the reason I sat through this one and ironically, her character's unbelievable naivete, clumsiness and "innocence" (all cliches, poorly done) was pretty irritating throughout the show. The soundtrack also was one of the worst I've heard for these shows - the comic scenes invariably had wretched "funny" music and the theme song made me sorry that Alannis is apparently popular and influential in Korea, which is not a good thing. 2 years without a phone call and only one postcard between predestined lovers? Then there's the cliched kiss with fireworks and the too-pat resolutions for the supporting characters. It's not believable, and Dalja is clearly not mature enough to be in a long-term relationship at the end (she even still has the teenagerish black nail polish), so why is this accepted as a good ending? I really want to know. This was a very disappointing series that could've been much better had the writers developed the characters more believably and especially to show some actual maturing of the main character, which the title suggests is the main point of the show!

Notice the depiction of rain in the final illustration? Suits the final narrating lines:
As long as one's alive, nothing has ended. There's no conclusion, so there's no happily ever after either. There's just starting every new day together."

Well, it's a 70 minute show, so add in a few commercial breaks, and I'd say 7:45, maybe a few minutes earlier.

I think it did start a little earlier last night; I had my VCR set for 7:45, and I missed at least a few minutes in the beginning. The first thing I saw was the guy arriving at the house in the country, after he had almost run her down.

I was somewhat disappointed in the ending. While it did have a happy ending, it seemed to end too abruptly and additional episodes would have been great to develop Taebong and Dalja's relationship after she returned. I also thought Sunju gave in too easily to Sedo's proposal. Ok, they did recap that she had constantly said "no", but shortly thereafter, she decides "ok". Maybe it's just me. I only watched DS the last few weeks (when I found it on accident), and I felt the ending would be just as good as those episodes, but it wasn't. I agree with Ken that Dalja didn't truly mature, but I didn't pay attention to the nail polish. I don't think that's much of a factor, but I understand what you mean. I think she could use some more time on her own??

Dalja is dedicated to her work. If she promised to do something, she'll get it done, which we've all seen in the incident on New Year's Eve when she took responsibility over the special broadcast when the other team were in an accident, as well as the Valentine's Day incident. So when she agreed to go overseas for two years, it would have been quite unprofessional of her to then later recant all because TB asked her to stay. That's why she made no promises to TB. What do we know of long distance romances? Maybe nothing, but many of the K-dramas have characters that wait *forever*, so 2 years doesn't seem out of the question. Then why did she keep looking back for him (presumably) if she didn't want to at least say good bye? So yes, I think she would have picked up, don't you? Which is why he then *should* have tried calling even if it was to get a wrong number. And if not, her red purse was a dead giveaway. He should have at least picked up on that. That sounds like it would have worked for Sunju better than Dalja. All your points are excellent, but I feel, like a few others here, that they dropped the ball when they had such a good thing going up til then. Any chance you could share the link where you found all the illustrations?

I really wouldn't have expected Dalja to change very much in two years. Being in the states away from her support system of family & friends, I doubt that she developed many relationships with people. I did expect her to come back and move up professionally which she did.
The black nail polish is kind of young for her, but maryjane shoes are kinda young for me but it's a part of my style. Be glad she didn't become a gothchick. Not that there's anything wrong with that.
