I like this lady more and more! She seems to enjoy handling Jini's performance schedule and she doesn't really care what other people in the troupe think! It's as though she is ready to retire and is doing only what pleases her.
She encourages Booyang to keep plugging away and fighting for the position of troupe leader. Recognizing how Jini has the popularity contest she sets up the final dance competition she sets things up so the judges will be fellow gisaengs. Clever! ;D
Booyang is just getting tiresome! Face it, lady, you don't have star power! Jini can dance, write poetry, play music like a star...
Maehyang said it best--"The world of arts is cruel--either you have talent or you don't."

Boo-young definitely has talent. She can play instruments, write poetry, and she dances quite well. But, she lacks soul, which is what Jini has plenty of. I like to watch Booyoung dance, but it's just like a passing performance. I can recall Jini's dances better than BY's. I think Booyoung's only problem is that she's more absorbed in winning than she is about dedicating herself to the arts, like Jini has. If she concentrated more on doing something (dancing, writing poetry, etc.) to free her mind as opposed to doing something to beat someone else, she would be just as good as Jini.

I agree that she has talent. She works incredibly hard and with dedication. I think that the difference between the two, Maehyang said in an earlier episode, is that Jini has a gift, a natural talent and ability of self-expression that flows. She doesn't need to "practise" it--it's just there. Booyang, on the other hand, has reached the level of excellence by trying harder. She possesses outstanding technical ability but her style is more athletic as opposed to Jini, who is a lyrical dancer. It is unfortunate that in dance today, particularly in the ballet world, the athletic style is overshadowing the lyrical. And I agree also that if Booyang would forget about winning she would be much better off.

Yes, she doesn't lose herself in dance the way Jini does sometimes. Altho last night Jini wasn't so sure of herself. The crowd dissipated when she started twirling. They liked it when she was being a crane, tho.

When Booyung was traveling around to the various troups, I wasn't sure how pure her motives were. I thought she might have been just flattering the women who were going to be her judges. But when she watched the dancers, she seemed sincerely interested. So I still don't know.

But when she watched the dancers, she seemed sincerely interested. So I still don't know. I agree with you. I think that she had several motives. Wanting to learn as much as she could, wanting to "stump" for her campaign, understanding that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery and that the judges would be more favorably disposed towards her if they saw a move or two of their own, etc. I think she was torn between a desire to learn and a desire to win.
