i watched most of the episode last night, when she was performing for the Chinese diplomat, but I missed the very end. I only saw that she ripped a paper in front of him. Why? can anyone explain this to me. i was kind of confused.

I thought the rival troup was practicing. I don't get whether they are or are not supposed to slash the papers. Maybe not, since it's prettier to leave them whole, and it would show control of the knives? Except that the wind blows them around.
The head of that troup is a meanie and now feels threatened. I kept thinking of Nancy Kerrigan and that rival (Tanya Harding) who had her attacked. I was relieved to hear her talk of influencing an important man instead of going after Jini physically.

Well...If I remember correctly, when you'll watch the next episode, you'll get the reason why jini tear off the paper written the poem by the chinese diplomat. You didn't miss the end, that is the end of the episode.

Oh my, was I ever thinking of this reference watching the show tonight -- I'm sure you could guess the scene.

Albie are you ahead of us somehow? What you're asking about sounds like the ending in episode 10 which just aired last night. The diplomat wrote an award poem or some such on her dress, and then as he was about to leave he and everyone else heard her rip her dress where the writing was and throw it in the fire. I don't remember the paper scene you're describing.
RE ep 10: I was somewhat disappointed that they just jumped ahead four years and left us to fill in the blanks. Somehow Jini (with a new name that I haven't grasped yet) has impunitive autonomy and can seemingly say and do whatever she wishes to whomever with no threat of consequences. How did this happen? Just because of her writing abilities? And how did she aquire her own entourage complete with bodyguard?
It sounded to me like no dance or music was performed in this 4 year interim. I thought they were only going to cry for one day.
Any thoughts?

Well, the monk who Jini was talking to yesterday gave her the name Myeongwol when she was practicing for the contest four years ago. She's now used that name to "blind people with her brightness." I was sort of frustrated too trying to figure out what exactly could have been happening these past four years.. But it seems like Jini is a full-fledged Kisaeng and she's calling all the shots in her troupe. She's either well-liked or completely disliked and she's become this really cold person, understandably. She's moved up the Kisaeng ladder in such little time... I don't understand as well how all this could've been happening in a four year span. But she seems to have accomplished what she said in episode 9. She's made sure that she's paying them [all] back.

She's really rich now, so I guess she can pay for her bodyguard and bearers. But what happened to the discipline of the troupe? Before it was so absolute, my way or punishment. Why is Hwang Jini's haughtiness so sexy? Unless she flatters the men in privacy, I don't get it.

What about the Chinese diplomat? I didn't get the idea about the manuscripts burning until the end. What a SOB! Who made him god? The king on Dae Jo Young hardly gets that deference. He needs a cup of hemlock or something untraceable. It's infuriating to see these strong people having to walk on eggshells. Any poisonous snakes around?
