I am having a hard time liking this character. I don't know if I'm going to end up liking her. Why doesn't she like her teacher?

Why do you think she doesn't like her teacher? The teacher is a hard task-mistress and ambitious, and not especially warm, but she did have one friendly conversation with Jini. Did something happen that convinced you she doesn't like her? (Maybe I forgot it.)
I was angry with Jini when she stabbed her instrument and cut the strings. It wasn't her instrument, was it? All of a sudden there was an instrument for her, she didn't make it. What gives her the right to wreck it?

It was a form of symbolism. It's supposed to symbolize something but I'm not sure if I'm allowed to say what it is. It might be considered a spoiler.

Could it be a metaphor for Jini losing her innocence? She herself is the instrument, and the order to lose her virtue is the cutting of the strings in her mind?
As far as the beauty comparisons, it's all relative. They're all beautiful, but for the story's purpose they promote the idea that she stand out over all others. The only one who's a little funny looking is the teacher's assistant, but only when compared to all the others.
I had the same reaction as Lucy when they put her friend (Dimsha?) down as being homely. I went "What?? where are you looking?" Ha.

Jini had been asking about a gisaeng who no longer played her instrument. She seemed puzzled at how the woman could make such a decision, I guess because playing is a pleasure. There's a certain amount of force involved in the troup, the head mistress can make them practice for hours, and now is forcing them to sleep with a man. It seems unlikely that Jini will be allowed to throw away her musical gift when she is made to do everything else. Is she allowed to be that willful?

Knov1, why don't you post something in the spoiler thread about what it's supposed to symbolize? That way those of us that like reading the spoilers can do so, and those that just like to watch the story unfold can stay away from there. Thanks. I have my own theory as to what it means, and I'm curious if I'm close to being right. And ginnycat for the resord, I thought the same thing when Jini cut the strings on that instrument. She has no right to destroy something that isn't hers, although I suppose that action was meant to symbolize her wanting to "cut" ties with the troupe and be with her jail-bait looking guy.

I don't think that Jini will just sleep with a man becuase the head mistress tells her to. Something tells me that she has more self respect than that. The way that she has been carrying herself so far has led me to believe that she won't allow herself to do it. But maybe that's just me...

Please tell me where I can see the Hwang Jini film. I am from VN. So I can the trailer or preview in Youtube. Thank alot Hi vanhangma! Most of Hwang Jini episodes can be watched from the KBS World website, but you have to register with them before they let you watch. And, if you can't read Korean (I can't ) it can be difficult to register. Also, it looks like KBS has already removed episode #1 from the website. www.kbs.co.kr/drama/hwangjiny/view/vod/index.htmlIt sounds like you already checked, but YouTube has lots of trailer segments you can watch. I did a search for “Hwang Jini” on YouTube and got lots of choices. See if this link works for you: www.youtube.com/results?search_query=hwang+jiniHwang Jini will probably come to DVD soon. If you are looking for it in Vietnam, it will probably come from Hong Kong, and come with English and Chinese subtitles. I don’t know how much that will help you, but it may be the best you can do. Good luck!
