Xue Rengui (Chinese version) Emperor Li Shimin (Chinese version) General Li Jing (Chinese Version) - on the left Xue Rengui (Korean version) Emperor Li Shim (Korean Version) General Li Jing (Korean version) I find it funny that the only similar aspect is the emperor (although the Korean version looks more Korean than Chinese in terms of costume), the others are completely (age wise) different from both versions.

This is interesting. What Chinese Drama did these images come from?
BTW the actor playing Li Shimin in Dae Joyoung is the same man who played General Hong Yu in Emperor Wang Guhn.

The drama series is called The Legendary Warrior, It focuses primarily on Xue Rengui rise to fame. Came out last year Its interesting because that drama makes Xue Rengui a disciple of General Li Jing (far from what Dae Joy Young presents)

i personally don't like this movie because they picture Yeon Gae So Moon as a worthless man who 'betrayed' the 'Great China' and led his country Goguryeo into demise. I hate it how Yeon Gae So Moon is scared of Xue Rengui in this drama.

Yeon Gae So Moon would never be scared of Xue Rengui in real history.

Fair enough.
I must admit to being too ignorant about the true history of this period to concur or disagree with you though.

Well it is true that Lee Deok Hwa is a little too old to play the younger version of Xue Rengui (or in Korean, Seol In Gui 설인귀).

That's an interesting topic of discussion for me. When a historical character is portrayed over the course of his/her entire lifetime or for some extended period...
In the ROTK Drama several characters were played by different actors at stages of the storyline. This is understandable when the story begins during a character's teenage years, but in the case of that series (and most notably the casting for Zhao Yun) I think it was a bit over the top.
The other side of it is that an actor must be selected who can best portray the character in question. In that case the best course is most often to cast one actor and use makeup and effects to artificially age the appearance of that person as the storyline progresses.
At this point in time studios in Korea, China, USA or anywhere should be capable of implementing the latter approach. I suppose that in every case budgetary interests will determine how well this can be accomplished.

Emperor Wang Guhn did the aging effectively, adding in grey or white over time so you got a sense of what stage of life Kyun Hwon was.
i haven't seen that since then (and it would have been helpful in some cases)

JP you always know which buttons to push!
Me being an EWG phanatic and all.
They did an entirely excellent job with Kyun Hwon in EWG. Suh In Suk played perhaps the most intriguing part in any K-Drama that I've taken the time to watch over the past few years. Further, I could almost feel the symptoms of his deteriorating health leading up to Shin Guhm's rebellion. He had an infected boil on his back if I remember correctly. He looked and acted like an old man by the time he went over to Koryo and helped the Emperor defeat Bekjae.

Hello guys, I sure envy you who had got a chance to see the EWG. I have been searching and trying to get EWG after reading so many good critics on it. Can you help me? I am from Singapore and had tried Yesasia, Senasian...and whatever website but nobody is stocking up on it. I need subtitles to understand the show. I have bought a 2-episode drama from KBS direct but it came without subtitles.
Thanks so much for any help.

I think have heard of the drama about the chinese verson of Seol In-ki story. As far as I have read somewhere on the net, the drama is not based on real historical events : in it, the counterpart of Tang of Xianbei or general Seol is not Koguryeo, its enemy is imaginary. If it is true, wonder why they have avoided real history in the drama. I have heard they consider him as one of the greatest heros in Tang history even though he has nothing to do with Tang in blood tie.
by the way their foreheads without bandannas look very strange for me who have never watched Chinese old time based dramas. Are the appearances on the pictures typical ones in Tang dramas?

I saw parts of it...........quite short (only 32 episodes). There is a lot of swordplay and fantasy that chinese historical dramas are known for. (not really my style especially relating to history) here's a clip on youtube on it www.youtube.com/watch?v=JngGM616Ty4Heheheh.....you gotta love the opening song ;D

Are the appearances on the pictures typical ones in Tang dramas? Well, Chinese historical dramas have never stayed true to history, they treat is more like entertainment rather than a history show. Meaning there is a lot of high flying swordplay with some magic thrown in and all that jazz. About the costumes, I haven't seen enough tang related dramas to know for sure. The storyline in Chinese historical dramas are too outlandish for me to invest in it to be honest.
