Last Tuesday, 5/15, the story ended with Gulsabiwu about to tell DJY something VERY significant about Chulin.... like she's pregnant.... So last nite (Monday 5/21) I was amazed that the opening scene had absolutely nothing to do with how the story ended on 5/15. what kind of writing is THAT?

I thought it was just me. I may have taped one and not watched it, but I didn't notice anyone but her maid who knew, then it seemed like lots of people knew. ?? How frustrating to not see DJY's reaction. Maybe he still doesn't know and we'll get to see him react to the baby's birth.

I taped the show last night, and thinking that I may have messed up the beginning, I re-taped it this afternoon. But it wasn't me, there really was a break in the story.

When Biwu was trying to tell JY, they were interrupted by Mimosa with more pressing matters. The subject did not come up again in this episode. That's my take on it. See how excited Kaigu is that they thinks it's a boy?? So far I think the only ones that know the real father are: Kaigu, Chulin's servant, Biwu, and I think that's it right now.

I must be lost because I seriously thought that Chulin told DJY about her pregnancy already. She always kept pointing to her belly and kept saying "Our Baby" that I must've assumed DJY was previously informed. Guess not. Hmm, wonder what he'll make once he learns his son is in the hands of Yi Haego.

Absolutely correct; in fact, that's two blown cliffhangers in the last three episodes. When Chulin was leaving with the Khitans for Yingzhou, it sure looked like she spotted DJY in the crowd. But then the next episode started and she had never even looked in his direction. And then this week (#55) the "pregnancy announcement" just vanished. Inexcusably sloppy.

Gum, the son of DJY and Chulin in this drama, is a fictional character. DJY's first son was Dae Mooye.

That would be his legitimate son. I ever read he had illegitimate son. Just like DJY has brothers fighting the cause too yet in the show, he only has sworn brothers.

Not quite true. Dae Muye (Mu of Balhae, son of DJY) is actually son of DJY's first girlfriend (sort of like wife). Not from his legit wife (Koguryeo's survived faction's daughter - not princess portraied in drama)Cholin from TV darama is fictional but may be not Coz, DJY actually marry Khitan wife and had a son. And most likley this first son is Dae Muye.
And DJY had couple of more sons from his legit wife, later sons fought each other and one of them went over to Tang empire, receives King title of Balhae, thus many Chinese are believing Balhae was part of Tang's territory. Which is not true, The traitor King from Balhae, actually die thus Balhae kingdom is no longer Tang's vassel state.

So admist all the bloodshed and fighting for survival, DJY still had time to romance the ladies. I really don't know what is true and what is not. If you read Korean history and Chinese history, they tell you quite different things. I will keep your version in mind though its the first I heard of it. I remember reading in both accounts that Dae Muye who succeded DJY as King was son of his legitimate wife.

Forgot to add that what I read is that Muye dedicated hiimself to following DJY's path. He got his brothers and even his uncles (DJY's brothers) to serve as his ambassadors. It was Muye's sons who could not get along and were fighting each other for power.
King of Balhae title was bestowed on DJY first, not his son by Tang.

What was with Sukyoung in #60? I thought she was growing up and losing the attitude. Chulin wants to talk to Gulsabiwu, and he wants to talk to her, but Sukyoung says "If you won't tell me the reason, I'm not telling you where she is." What a disappointment. Someone needs to give her some discipline!

A halmani would be great for her learning experience!

I was thinking more along the lines of a spanking! But you both may have better ideas. She certainly seemed to be maturing over time and becoming more humble, especially after Pyongyang fell. But I just couldn't see any good reason why she copped that attitude all of a sudden. C and G needed to talk to each other and it obviously was gravely important to C, so let them talk for goodness sakes.
I must say, though, that the last few episodes have been fun, watching everybody try to outthink and outguess each other.
